Hi
We regularly walk from Paira da Roche to Alvor.
We would recommend walking along the cliff top to Praia de Vau, then cut through the Jardin da Vau complex to get onto the main road, turn left and follow the road all the way into Alvor. Depending how fit you are it can be a very easy walk and take approx an hour.
Although you can walk the cliffs all the way into Alvor, I wouldn't personnally recommend it. We have walked it and it is beautiful but it can also be very dangerous (didn't do it last year for this reason), the cliffs have fallen away at several points.
Alvor is beautiful.
Enjoy yourselves.

Hi anntrev

We go on 14th June - for a week. I will probably be the one lying by the pool with a cocktail in hand, earplugs in ears! lol

Hi
I am new to all this so please bare with me!!

I have also had a letter from my tour operator advising us of building work taking place adjacent to our hotel in Praia da Rocha (Plaza Real Apartments). Does anyone know how bad it is?? A little concerned as we booked ages ago and were really looking forward to it. However, a little too late to do anything about it now as we are going in 3 weeks!
Any news would be greatly appreciated!!

thanks!

Just got back yesterday from Praia Da Rocha... the noise from the construction is loud but after a couple of hours lying by the pool in the 30deg heat it just becomes ambient noice...

We were there in may 2007 and at that time the roadwoks were nearly st the Jupitor Hotel and the men doing the work were there from morning till night laying the small cobbel stones so i think by now all the main road should be done maybe they are just doing the side roads which all head away from the main part of the town.

Hi
Apparantly its a new hotel that is being built and this is just the start of laying the foundations, so probably be going on throughout the summer.
Im gonna make the most of it anyway!! Hopefully won't notice once ive got that ipod on and singing my heart out. Actually, Id better not, may put people off more than the building noise!!
thanks for the replies!
2 weeks to go, can't wait :sun2

Returned yesterday from Praia da Rocha. Stayed in the Solmont Apartments. As I said in my review of the apartments, work is going on over the road from these apartments and the Club Arcos. As the season progresses I can see the noise getting louder. Especially as they start at 0700 Mon to Sat :(
However the weather soon made up for it :) :)

Hi Lazy Binman
Are the Solmont Apartments where you stayed anywhere close to the Plaza Real? We're going there in September and reading about all this construction work and noise everywhere is becoming rather alarming!!

hi roswel

I am going to the Plaze Real on the 29th June, I will let you know what the noise and building work is like when I get back!

Just posted two photos into the photo gallery. One that was taken on the second day of our holiday and the other 10 days later of the building works. These lads arent hanging about.

Photos were taken from balcony of room 509

We returned home last night, after a wonderful week in the Jupiter Hotel :cry

We had a front sea view room, and hardly noticed the building works going on to the left of the hotel (if you are facing the beach).

I am so glad we didn't change hotels, as suggested by travel agent, as the Jupiter looks like the best in the resort.
