I'm interested in this as well, we go in 3 weeks, staying in Algarve Casino.

Thanks :)

I was last there 3 weeks ago and most of it looked finished to me but it was literally as seen from the bus window. I am going back later this week.

Portimao to Praia da Rocha is about two miles but the local mini-bus network (Vai e Vem) connects the two for a mere €1.20; this runs every 20 minutes on weekdays and Saturday mornings; every 40 minutes Saturday afternoons and Sundays.

Hi, It is possible to walk to Alvor but it will take you about an hour to hour and a half depending on how fast you walk ,if I were you I would walk on the cliff road to Praia do Vau stop for a drink and then decide if you want to walk any further as you can now get a bus from there to Alvor .The walk over the cliffs from Vau to Alvor is lovely but we have been told that it has got a bit dangerous over the past year .In Vau there is a nice bar/cafe called the Jacaranda the owner is English so you could ask him before you decide.

There are only a few buses between Praia da Rocha and Alvor (six on weekdays and only four on Saturdays and Sundays) but there is a regular service (every half hour) of the minibuses between Praia do Vau and Alvor, so I guess you could walk half-way?

Otherwise you could go into Portimao and then out to Alvor; if you time it right that might take 40 minutes or so therefore not much to be gained over the direct walk!

Fool that I am - shouldn't post at 1am - but I forgot that there is another Vai e Vem route (Linha Verde) which goes along the main road at Clube Praia da Rocha (the road rejoices in the title of "Avenida das Communicaceos Lusiadas") along to Praia do Vau. That means if you didn't want to walk you could go down the the mai road and take the two different mini-buses at the risk of a 19 minutes wait in Praia do Vau.

Linha Verde however operates only every 40 minutes after 2pm Saturdays, all day Sundays and holidays.

Roadworks all finished! Saw for myself yesterday. The road that runs between the major hotels (eg Oriental, Jupiter) is now pedestrians only for much of its length.

We have just booked up for a chilled out week in June at Jupiter Hotel. Reading some reviews I notice there have been a lot of road works near the hotel. Does anyone know if these are finished? Also, any thoughts on this hotel in particular would be great.

We go to Albufeira with the kids in August!

All the roadworks in that area are finished. Never stayed there, but the Hotel Jupiter is now in a mostly pedestrian area and close to the beach although there are some steps to negotiate. Frequent local mini-buses stop outside and will take you to the centre of Portimao if you fancy a change of scenery and some designer shopping|

Me and hubby are off for a well earned rest (no kids - yay!) to Hotel Jupiter in 4 weeks. It has been booked for months. I have just received an email from mytravel stating there is building work going on 20 metres across the road from the hotel! A new building is being built next door. :yikes I took a long time to choose what I thought was the right hotel for us - and don't know what to do! Does anyone (who has been recently) know if it is very noisy or am I worrying about nothing? :yikes

:que :cry :(

Hi Jeannie, My husband and myself atre also going to the Jupiter on 16/6 for 10 days. Our travel agent hasnt let us know anything about building works but when we went last september there were no signs. I can only think that they are building down the side street somewhere. We did not stay at the Jupiter then, we were in Alvor but spent most days at prai de rocha beach with some of our family who were staying there. Decided to go there ourselves for a holiday.

Hi, we are going to Hotel Jupiter in 2 weeks, we have just recieved a letter from Thomas Cook regarding the building work. They have said that it is approximately 20m across the road from the hotel, work will be visible from the side sea views and noise may be heard at times, the hotel will ensure we will be allocated a room away from the work where possible. We have payed an extra £70 to have a balcony if we are given a room away from the noise I hope it has one. I am taking all the invioices with me so I have proof I booked the room with a balcony and payed for it. Anyone else going on the 7th June to 14th.
Chris.
