Amdy and Mel, would you be wanting to go on a package holiday or DIY. I love Corfu and think that's where we'll probably be heading for our 3rd time next year. I've found a nice 'small and Friendly' with Thomsons called The Paleo Inn in the most scenic resort I know of, Paleokastritsa. I am tempted to go to this resort DIY because I've seen some lovely little sc villas advertised. Take a look at this website, it's stored in my favourites on my laptop ;)

Click on the pics to find out more about the properties, some have got a price list but some haven't. Let me know if you require any more info with regards to Corfu. I'm no expert but I can share our experiences with you.

Hi shirley
We will definatley go with a tour operator as my wife is too wary about diy the place you have suggested sound fantastic so will do a little research and who knows?

We both love to eat out every night and like a few beers so what kind of spending money would you recomend ?
We normally holiday in turkey and take approx £1600 to include the odd day trip and a little shopping.

do you think this would be enough?

Hi again, we are a couple who seem to like similar things to yourselves. It's very tricky recommending how much money to take as it depends on what you want and your particular budget. We find we spend around £1400 for the 2 of us for 2 weeks on SC and eat out most of the time but we only do the one trip and I don't 'do' shopping on hols apart from a few holiday souvenirs. Most of our money seems to go on food and drinks.

We're off to turkey in August for our second time and have been led to believe that it's no cheaper than Greece now- so we shall see. the Greek islands are our usual haunts and I will definitely be back there next year.

With regards to the resort I recommended (Paleokastritsa), it is small and I've only managed to find two properties advertised with the main TOs so far- The Paleo Inn - b&b and The Odysseus hotel which i think is half board. It's a much bigger property and a lot more expensive.

Another resort I can recommend is Kassiopi. It used to be a little fishing village but has grown over the years and has a bit of everything in small measures, including a nice harbour where you can take boat trips.
I'm happy to keep chatting about Corfu all day :sun2 :cheers

Hi again shirley
Were off to turkey in august going to dalyan this year, we try and visit a different resort every year.
The prices in turkey now are approx the same as the uk so the days of cheap holidays are now gone i think.
you can still eat cheap if your on a budget but to be honest we work hard all year for our 2 weeks in the sun so we don`t like to skimp on our meals etc...

Thanks for your replies i have had a quick browse on TC`s web site and the prices seem ok but the apartments all seem to be fairly large i.e over 60 rooms which is just a bit too big for us.

You must check out Theo's Hotel http://www.theoshotel.com in Agios Georgios north. This hotel would suit you perfectly and fits your requirements to a tee. Although it has 30 rooms it is more like a 'friendly house' than a hotel. We have just returned from 2 weeks there. The lounge atmosphere is extremely warm and friendly and on most evenings several local Greek people usually turn up for their regular tipple. The lovely quiet pool is just the place to relax.

This year it has gone 'independent' but previously won 16 continuous Thomsons' Gold Awards based on guests' reviews.
Don't rule out Independent as can be as easy as pie nowadays with the guidance given by the hotel owner by email or web-site. You check availablity by email or phone (it will be held for you) ..then check for a flight...confirm booking ..done. Theo will arrange taxis to collect you at airport (or car hire if preferred) and his knowledge of the island is far, far better than a 'new-to-the-island' package tour rep who is just out to sell you expensive trips.

The area is rather laid-back and its rolling hills, olive groves and lovely scenery suits walkers, country-lovers plus of course beach-lovers.

It is lacking in noisy night-life though . :que
