we went to a little bar almost opposite the perola de mar most nights for a drink or two.i think it was called the red lion.had a nice friendly atmosphere and it seemed regulars used it a lot as a meet up.there are tables and chairs on the front but it goes back a way and i did see girls on their own at the bar having a drink and the chap who ran it was really nice.

Thanks bushbaby. Where is perola del mar ? I've got some nights planned with some Goan friends but quite fancied some time doing my own thing. This place sounds like what I'm after. Somewhere I can sit at a bar and have a couple of drinks without feeling too obvious.

What about somewhere like Annapurna / Mango Grove they're always busy. Or Nino's Nook / Ruffles full of English people, Ruffles has entertainment too.....the friendlies "bars" though are without doubt the shacks

Agree always plenty of English people in Ruffles (although drinks a bit pricey by Goa standards) or Nintendra's

Definitely Mango Grove if you like to meet people and sit and chat and whatch the world go by. Raffles always has club turns on (if that's your thing). It's not mine! :)

They have lovely cocktails in Ruffles :cheers

Ruffles is not that far from where I'm staying. That's a bonus.

Went to Ruffles while out there last week and it is one place I would never go back to, the service was appalling, waited over hour and a quarter for main coarse of our meal, never again.....jxk8.

Sim1, my friend and I really like Bending Bamboos just along from HBR. If I was going on my own I would definitely head for there. The staff are really friendly and there is a good atmosphere, at least there was in january!!
Maybe we will see you there as we go out in 2 weeks time.

sim1 perola de mar is on the same side of the road as alberque villas and across the road from the elephant shop.we stayed at the phoenix park and it is on the corner at the top of the lane that the p.p. is -if that makes sense!

Most of the small bars are really friendly with a relaxed atmosphere.
Nintendra (Blue Moon) Nino's, Ruffles, Mango Grove all attract a good amiable crowd as do most of the places mentioned above. You certainly wont feel uncomfortable in any of these. Maybe as a single female the one place to avoid would be the Sports Bar, it can get a bit boisterous and overbearing at times.

Thanks all for this. I feel much better about going alone now. Never had to think about it before because my hubbie has always been with me. I don't have any problems being alone and am quite a chatty person but didn't want to walk in somewhere and sit all night feeling like Billy no mates. The good thing too is that all these places are quite close to where I'm staying. Thanks again

I would have to say bending bamboo, it is a nice place for a drink, and if you are alone it is so friendly, unlike ruffles which has such a clique atmosphere.

Has anyone tried BUTTER in Candolim? Looks impressive from outside. They had the UK ABBA tribute band on there on New Years Eve.....believe it was a great night!!
