As a first time Sharm-er, I am now worried about what SPF to wear, having read people's comments about how hot it is.. I only used SPF20 to start with in the Dominican and went down really low (though I won't be going lower than 15 this year as I have to start being sensible!) but I just wondered what people thought about the best factor to use.
I tan easily and burn sometimes if I don't reapply on time, but my boyfriend is much more pale-skinned Our rep at Thomas Cook went last week to the Laguna Vista and said that he used SPF 20 on his face and it still fried! Help, I need some advice!!
Thanks everyone!
We are going in July and are starting with 50+ and going down from there.
Boots are doing Nivia buy one get one free at the moment and other brands too. that has a good UVB protection aswell and was voted best sun protection on this morning. it also starts working from the moment you put it on, none of this 20 mins before you go into the sun.
Ola
we're going in july too - we were going to start on 30 - do think that's too low??
I went to Sharm on 28th July last year for two weeks.
very exited now.. 43 days to go!
Exfoliate every 3 days before you go away, and work your way down from high factors. Make sure you drink juice and water and have good quality sunglasses and a hat. The sun is soooooo bright! Put your sun cream on in your room. before your bikini etc. It avoids getting burnt on the way to the loungers. Piz buin do great 1 day sachets. You will have to top up, but it saves the worry.
But..... there is more to Egypt than getting a tan!!!!
Put your sun cream on in your room. before your bikini etc.
Definitely agree! From head to toe!
i'm a bit worried about the one-day suncreams - i feel reassured reapplying all day! sad i kno..
I was in Sharm in March last year, v.good, and Morocco in early Nov. last year, I'm a normal tanner you might say, go red first then brown. I used the one day long SP20 brand for Sharm and also used the Piz Buin one day long in Morocco, I went in and out of pools and the sea and the only problem I had was with the SP20 where I didn't quite cover my right shin one day and my left shoulder the following day due to it being a clear oil type substance, what can I say, slap it on early as per the instructions and forget about it, they are both fantastic products, going to Hurghada 4 weeks on friday, hot hot hot!! I'm taking the Piz Buin one day long spf30, 20 and 15, just remember the number is supposed to tell you how long you can stay in the sun compared to how long it would take you to burn if you wearing no lotion at all, not explained it well but, burn in 30 minutes SPF20 should mean you would then burn in 10 hours!! Best to be over cautious though.
Enjoy your trip!!!!!
Does anyone know if you can buy decent suntan lotion in sharm just in case i run out and how much is it compared to our prices at the moment?
Going with all family beginning of August so am going to need a suitcase just for sun cream!!
I think you'll find it's cheaper to buy in the UK
Our Thomas Cook rep said that where he stayed the sun cream was cheaper than here, in Manchester, and brand names too.. I will try to find out more details of where he went, but i'm only taking half the amount i normally do and buying the rest there to save on weight!
It is a myth that the lower the factor the browner you will get. All the factors mean is the protection you get from the sun uva/b etc.
In Sharm they sell their own brand for 30 upwards, its milk and it is great from the supermarkets. I have also bought Ambro Solaire milk, as a bogof offer. Milk tans far quicker than oil or creams.

Also noted in the White Knight Supermarket at Sharks Bay area a Factor 90 sunblock for kids
We like the once a day ones Boots do a 30&15 that were on bogof but don't know if they are now
Hi I have just returned from Sharm and used Ambre Solaire factor 30 and 20 during my stay. I have fair skin but do bronze quite easily.
As there is a very nice breeze you do not think you are burning, but believe me you do. On our first day I was in the shade having a drink (or two) at the swim up pool bar at our hotel (Concorde el Salem) and my back was bright red when I went back to the room, I hadn't even realised due to the breeze.
As one of the previous comments states, there is a myth re the lower factor making you browner, this is not true, you are actually damaging your skin cause the protection from the sun is lower, I always use factor 30 going down to 20 and come back with a lovely tan.
im going in august and have taken advantage of a few bogof's factor 50+ for the kids and factor 30 for me and im
could anyone tell me how reliable the one a day sunlotions are? Are they any good for the kids?
I'm not sure because i think i would feel a bit funny not putting lotion on several times.
My hubby used P20 last year and didn't burn once........ so i would recommend it
I was in Taba at the end of June last year. Twas about 45deg every day. I am fair skinned but do take a tan . I used PizBuin Once A Day factor 30 for the first week and Factor 15 the next on my son and myself. I didnt burn once and I had a lovely even tan.
Jilly
Going to El Gouna in August (just a bit hotter!!) and I will take Clarins 20, Katie will use f.44 and Phil will go back to NoAd F 15 (but I think I`ll pop in a bottle of 30 just incase, without him seeing it)
