Been back now for a couple of weeks after a 7 night stay in Es Cana after about a 10 year break from visiting the resort before.
Thought I would post just a few observations.
On the surface the resort had not really changed much, however must say how surprised at how quiet it was compared to previous visits at the same time of year.
Made a point of visiting a number of bars I remembered from before and in all cases they were very sparsely occupied. I suppose it could have been the times we were there, but talking to some of the people running them, they were all of the opinion that trade was very slow already. It was commented that the start of their season was bit of a strange one with it being Mayday in Spain one week and May bank holiday in UK the next which seemed to get things off on the wrong foot. Another bar owner did pass the comment to me that trade had GOT to pick up soon - said with a hint of desperation.
Don.t know if it's down to the "all inclusive" deals that are around now. We made a point of visiting one hotel that ran all inclusive and must say wasn't too impressed ( no names) arrived at mid evening just as people were coming out of the restaurant - having paid for my drinks (including reminding the barman I should be getting change from a 20 Euro note not a 10 ;). ) then watched him single handed try and cope with the sudden rush of people from the restaurant. We didn't hang around to see how things panned out later in the evening or see if the service situation got any better.
In spite of this we thoroughly enjoyed our return. Stayed at the Panorama Marina ( or the " old peoples hotel" as I jokingly heard it referred to) which I would recommend especially for couples looking for a break from young families. A nice touch was after being asked at checking in if we had stayed there before and mentioning yes but about 13 years ago we were pleasantly surprised to have a bottle of wine delivered to to room - compliments of the manager, with a note thanking us for choosing to stay at their hotel again.
Sorry to ramble on a bit, but would like to hear from anyone going later in the year to see if things had picked up any. ( seriously considering returning towards the end of the season)
