Hi Dave, when I visit a country that I'm passionate about I usually write a little tale to get my point across, so that other disabled travellers looking at Malta for a possible holiday can see that I had a great relaxing time and truly enjoyed myself. Which I presume is what all disabled travellers are looking for in a holiday, especially if they can read that a country is truly enjoyable. Mike

Hmmmn, nice story but I am afraid i agree with real holidaymaker. Perhaps you would get your point across better if you wrote in a more practical way about your holiday in malta. Ie: where you stayed, hotel conditions, what you did, what to visit, what to look out for etc, standards of food and how accessible everything is from a person with disabilities point of view...makes it all so much easier to understand..i didn't catch on to anything in your story that described how good malta was for a disabled person..maybe you are too clever for all of us!!!

Hello again mikeco5, don't get me wrong here I am all for everybody having a good time on holiday thats what holidays are all about, it is just that for most people with disabilites your idea of swimming with a girl in the sea that came from out of the blue is just a fantasy along with the dolphins.
I see from your other post you have put a good word in for the hotel you stayed in, that said as someone who has been to Malta and Gozo a few times it is not the best of places for people with disabilites, the hotels may well have in place the things that are needed, but what about the streets with there uneven slabs, high curbs and then there are all the hills and steps.
Then there is getting into the sea with not many beaches, most are rock beaches with the only way to get in is by jumping or diving in so getting out is by ladder only.
Transport is another issue none of the old or new busses have drop down sides for wheelchairs, taxi's are the same just standard cars unlike the black cabs here, so again you would be limited to just hire cars and then there is the problem were do you park.
So Mike, these are just a few of the things that I see about Malta that I would and have put before to people who like yourself would find hard to get about, as I put at the start I don't want and have never tryed to put people of Malta or any other resort that I have been to, but you have to look at it right way someone like yourself will be a great help to others on this site, somebody who can give a proper veiw about what it is like from a wheelchair.

Ok Dave, I'll remember this in future, and I fully understand about the kerbs etc. Fortunately my son being a strong ex bouncer had no problems in getting me around. I didn't use the buses or taxis as we had a hire car. If you check out some of my other posts in different countries, I have gone into detail in a lot of them which I hope will prove useful to other travellers. I do have a website for disabled access travellers, but as I have not been here long enough, I am not yet allowed to put up my website address. best regards, Mike
