Well, we made it to Dalyan. Started off with a scare as an "indefinite flight delay" was announced at the airport, but then 10 minutes later they changed their mind and we were off on time.
Was welcomed to Dalyan with a power cut in the early hours of Saturday morning!Went for a walk
in the afternoon and found it was market day:

Invested in some strawberries and a tub of ice cream on the way back to the apartment - the joys of self catering!

Oh, and here's a shot of the river to show I'm in Dalyan and not any other place with a market:

I can either add to this thread or cease and desist if people think some sort of Dalyan holiday blog isn't what this site is about.
Let me know!
Cheers.
You are making me so jealous How i would love to be back in Dalyan as we love it there
Please feel free to keep all the information coming Random Number. Am sure our members will be really interested.

Aside from being popular with the mossies my girlfriend has picked up her traditional Turkish tummy bug (earlier in the holiday than normal) so we haven't made the trip to the beach yet.
Have still managed to have a couple of nice meals so far, although a learning point is that Dalyan doesn't seem to be a place for late dining with a lot of restuarants looking to close just after 10pm.

Most importantly I believe we have found the cheapest beer in the resort! 2.5 Lira for a large Efes but as a special offer when we ordered a meal it was just 2 Lira per bottle all evening:

Including the spooky haunted house:

I liked the "moon in the trees moment" and there are frogs living in the "green" swimming pool of this apparently abandoned building and blimey do they make a racket at night.
Cheers.
10 weeks and counting till we will be there.
hope i dont get a tummy bug as i love the boat trip to the beach.
loved the picture of the lamp shop will definitley make a space in my luggage for one of them.
hope your having a good holiday and await more pictures to get me excited about my holiday.

Any advice for future visitors? Are the mosquitoes a real problem?
Any must-see places? Anything?!
can you give me an idea on how much some food is like turkish casseroles etc
ive had a look at a few apts and hotels online and there seems to be plenty of availability for next mth still
I've started adding Dalyan pictures to my Flickr pages.
Tips about things to do?
The dolmus ride to the beach is nice. It costs 5.5 Lira return (the boat to the other end of the beach is 8 Lira return) however it appears you can't rely on what they say about the bus times if there aren't enough passengers! They advertise the service as every half hour, but we ended up waiting nearly an hour to go to the beach and well over an hour to get back because we picked a day last week that was a bit windy and cloudy and so not that popular.
Another must is the rowing boat across the river to go and see the rock tombs. When you get below them there is a sign saying this is closed, however the gate is open and as long as you're fairly able bodied you can climb up the paths to them.
Market day in Dalyan is Saturday.
There are certainly mozzies here, but I have seen worse in other resorts/countries.
Regarding prices, Turkish casseroles, stir fries etc. are mostly around 15 to 19 Lira. Steaks seem to be between 20 and 25 Lira. A large Efes in most restaurants is 3.5 or 4 Lira. The quality of all the meals we have had so far has been pretty good.
The weather here at the moment is absolutely scorching!
Cheers.
Bumping thread for turkey first timers.
Thanks for the bump Les, I had never seen it before and we are going to Dalyan in June for our first trip to Turkey so it has been nice seeing the pictures and reading about the resort
Happy to oblige Graham.
I come here for the first time in ages looking for some advice to find one of my old threads has been bumped - nice to know it's been of value. To be honest I haven't updated my Flickr pages for the last couple of years, but there are sets from Dalyan, Icmeler, Akyaka/Gokova and Altinkum:

Maybe I should make the effort to sort out some pictures from my subsequent trips to Bitez and Turunc, plus returns to Dalyan, Icmeler and Akyaka...
Cheers!
I must ask though what is with the snakes, I know you get snakes but normally they are never seen, you seemed to have captured rather a lot, yes people will say they will only attack if threatened however I am more concerned about the attack that will happen to my bowels if they are a common sight.
You may have guessed I don't like them
The very first picture in the set taken from a hill looking over the river and Dalyan is superb, I must try and find a way up there.
Thanks again for all the pictures and all the brilliant info you have provided in here
I've never seen a snake on a beach or actually in the streets of a Turkish resort, however we like to go for a walk slightly off the main drag and seek out a bit of nature. Plus it helps if you're quiet and quick on the draw with your camera, as snakes and lizards are generally keener to get away from you than you are from them if they hear you coming
The first picture looking down over Dalyan was taken after climbing up by the tombs.
Cheers.
Great photos
You've chosen a great resort for your first visit Rachael!
Fab photos, nae sure about the snakes tho !!!
Just paid final balance, Dalyan here we come on 12 July.
New country , new experience !
been to turkey 4 times now but looking forward to the peace and quiet of the river this year, and hopefully a bit of fishing.
