Thanks jayjan

Great info - I've downloaded the freemaps page - now looking forward to the visit.

BTW - do any of the restaurants close during the winter period?

Best wishes

Mike

Ruis & the chinese have always been open when we have visited Vilamoura, but not sure about others. You will find that there could be quite a few closed over the winter but there is still enough choice. You maybe lucky with the date you are going as its only a week before Christmas and you will find that a lot will open back up for the festive season. Enjoy your stay.

Hi

We are staying in the Villas Rufino in Gale from 26th June for two weeks. Can anyone recommend any good places to eat out? Also i believe weget a BBQ in the villa - does anyone know if there is a good butcher near or a fishmarket?

Am beginning to panic a bit as cannot find much info on the resort. We have always stayed in Olhas d'Agua before but decided to try somewhere different this year. Oh and also trying to find out if there is a bar near where my 18 and 11 year old boys can play pool?

Grateful for all information.

thanks

Hi,

There are a few very good restaurants within easy reach of Gale, not necessarily walkable but a very short taxi ride. Try O Marinheiro at Sao Rafael, Solar das Oliveiras, Jompra and Prima Pasta in Vale de Parra and O Museu dos Salgados in Salgados. Also, if you're really wanting to push the boat out, there's the Algarve's only 2 star Michelin restaurant in Gale, the Vila Joya! Lots of other places to eat within walking distance I expect.

There's a fairly new supermarket in Gale called Apollonia, which is excellent. Not sure about a fishmarket. You might have to go to Albufeira or Guia.

Sure there must be some bars for your youngsters - don't suppose it'll take them long to find them! Just ask around when you get there.

Have a great time! :wave

Hi,

Most supermarkets sell fish and fresh butcher meat anyway. Last time I was in Guia (5 years ago mind) there was a British style butchers that sold BBQ packs, sausages, burgers, ribs etc. Might be worth looking into.

ive seen the simplylagos site its very nice but unless im mistaken the "eateries" on there are actually advertisements placed by the restaurant owners. i was looking for personal recommendations for eating and drinking places in lagos.

Yes, you're mistaken. The reports on Simplylagos' site are the personal opinions of a Canadian couple who visited, and fell in love with, Lagos, and who now own two properties in town. I have eaten at at least 80% of the featured establishments over the years and can vouch for their accuracy. Bear in mind that all food-related opinions are likely to be subjective, but you can take Simplylagos' reviews as a pretty reliable standard on which to base your decisions. A few personal additions to their list would be Fernando's, on the Avenida, O Alberto uphill behind the hotel Tivoli Lagos and O Galeao.

Apologies, had a closure look and my first "glance" was wrong. Printed out their maps and noted the recommends. Thanks. :cheers

Can anyone suggest any nice Bars in Olhos de Agua? I've heard that Cabanas is nice! :sun2

Anyone going to Vilamoura should look up Pipa Rota, in the square behind the marina. Really nice food specialising in Portugese cuisine, we had a couple of very nice meals in there over the Christmas period. Nice atmosphere very good service and as I have said excellent food. A bit cheaper than on the marina as well. No entertainment as such, but you go to a restaraunt to eat dont you? :que

There are some great suggestions in this forum its a fantastic read, here is our contribution for Lagoa/Carvoeiro

Lagoa

Chrissys, Belgian/French menu out of the top drawer with set price meal includng wine/coffee selected from menu or specials, perfect for that special occasion, plenty parking right outside

Carvoeiro

O Indiano (the Indian - O Castelo) possible one of the best views in The Algarve, extensive authentic Indian menu with their own twist to some of the favourites plus special dishes. The terrcae view over the beach and sea is worth the money alone, Good prices and takeaway menu also

We have eaten here in June 2011 so are current recommendations

Hello everyone from a newbie

Trip to Praia da Rocha is booked. Seems like a while since anyone gave any recommendations for restaurants and bars in Praia da Rocha or Portimao. All views welcomed - good and bad!! :)

Thanks
