One that gets a definate thumbs up is jamies place in baga
Fantastic food in very pretty settings, the staff are so attentive
Bit dearer than some others but well worth it.
The O hotel in Candolim serves the most amazing Indian food and the hotel is gorgeous
There is also a Jamie's in Colva which is excellent.
Found a nice locals place last night veg soups 40, non veg 60, calimari chilly fry 100, half tandori chicken 90 cheese garlic naan 40, drinks BYO or they will go and get beer for you if they are not to busy, only trouble we had gone out on an exploring drive around, so not even sure we could find it again
Sounds great meagain!
Staying in Arpora this time and it's a few years since we have been.
May I ask about places like Star Light, All Spice, Rasa, Saffron.
I read about Nic n Nats and Green Goa? Any other thoughts on places round Arpora?
Can you tell me whereabout Nic & Nats is?
Thanks.
Star Light, Saffron and Green Goa are places we use at the end of the season when the tourist places have closed so can't help but they were OK last season however if you are going Green Goa way check out Baba Au Rhum the French bakery down the lane just over the road, great pizza, salads, quiche and the fresh fruit salad with curd and honey, not to mention the croissants and bread
Nic & Nats is just over the road to All spice also check out the near by Spice Oven we much prefer it to Honeys there are also a couple of places we want to try near the narrow bridge however MYX seems to be dead since Decades opened
Thanks for the info on that. Could I ask where Honeys, MYX and Decades are as I have never come across those.
thanks.
MYX (free Wi-Fi) is on the main road heading towards Calangute but still in Arpora before the narrow bridge and on the other side of the bridge is a new shack type of place and home to Fat Fish (looks good but not tried) and Decades is a bit further on just the other side of Snake Pass the lane that leads into Baga
Arpora now has some great eating places and a couple of local type drinking holes and don't forget what used to be Aubergine on the corner of the road leading to the Marinha Dourda and Mackie's market also Nicks Place just before the MD is still one of the best and busiest places in the area
You are going to have a great holiday, you lucky people
It's funny as Nicks Place is one we actively avoided as it looked to "Westernised" if that is not to unkind. We did eat there for lunch and it was Ok but I am aware of how busy it is and clearly how well regarded so I may give it a try one evening.
Have you been already this season meagain?
Thanks again
PS Aubergine....we did go in there and it seemed always quite good particularly the cram fry fish but always seemed to struggle to get the people in...although I do remember seeing a rat running in the rafters! What is the new restaurants name?
Feeling hungry already!
This week have been using some of our fall back eating places in Anjuna rather than risk the traffic around the main resorts.
Starco right in the village and was shocked at the new prices seems like every thing has gone up by at least by half again making main courses around the 360 mark instead of 240, the food was still good but not that good and I won't pay 70 for a small Tuborg
Oasis just down the road still has last season prices and is excellent value, chicken schnitzel, chips, salad, humus and pitta bread 210 Rps, chicken tikka, chips and salad 160 or 20 more with humus and pitta bread also 40 for a Kings but they didn't have any so had to have a Tuborg at 45 but can live with that
Forgotten the name of the other one but just down the road from Starco heading towards Vagator nice place and busy, very good food an not expensive apart from drinks they also wanted 70 for a small beer, so I had a bottle of water, won’t be rushing back until after the NY when my resolution to give up drinking for a while kicks in
Has anybody tried Tulips(from calangute leftside towards baga)Kieron had Fernandos outside Nizmar, always
friendly&a laugh?
The silly thing is I had read on a forum about a restaurant in Calangute over charging and would not have gone in the place if I had realised it was that restaurant however it had been a good evening until the bill arrived but we left with a nasty taste
He has only taken over Tulips this season, but it is a lot bigger than the place he had before, just wondered if anyone has tried it,
Thank's for letting us know about the new owner just goes to show just how important it is that the restaurants get reviewed each season, as I am sure a lot of people like us would not want to go back however I will certainly put it on our menu
I think we need to get Chris or Phil to give you a restaurant critic title Keep up the good work!
Would that be a new year honour Fiona
its the least you deserve
Patricks Sunrise restaurant in Chapora called in for lunch and had chicken curry with rice, spicey calamari curry with rice, roti, chapattis, two mango lassi and bottle of water, total bill was under 400 Rps, we was stuffed and packed the left over rice to feed the dog for two days, certainly will be back
Pink Chilly Arpora just inside the gates of the hotel opposite the go kart track, been meaning to get there for a long time as we was told about the tandoori leg of lamb but they were sold out, so just ordered butter chicken, aloo gobi, veg biryani and daal and was not disappointed, the food was excellent and so tasty also inexpensive for food and drinks, once again we packed the left overs, the daal and butter chicken for our lunch, the rice for the dog. This place is well worth finding, will be a regular place for us
Kenny's at Grandpa’s inn near Anjuna/Mapusa circle a nice garden setting with pleasant back ground music, menu is small but a bit different we had chicken stuffed with goats cheese in a very tasty sauce, excellent food at average prices but thought the drinks at 80 for a 60 ml spirit was expensive but would not stop us going back
Six Pack Anjuna another of our fall back restaurants near the market but it has moved to the other side of the road this season, had chicken ginger garlic kebab and a chicken tikka, both came with chips and salad, 220 each but there was not a lot of chicken only about 4 pieces so while it was nice it did not fill you up, we would have sooner paid more for more however the drinks are cheap
Curries on the road between Palmarinha and Calangute what a gem of a place with a very good inexpensive menu, we had Curries special chicken with chips and salad, the food was excellent and tasty also the drinks about the nearest you will get to local prices in a lovely setting, certainly will be back
