There are a good selection of restaurants that are aimed at families with young children, with secure play areas etc close to the dining areas. We were in Protaras in May last year and my kids are 2, 3 and 11, so I know where your coming from.
As far as supplies/groceries go, the local supermarkets tend to just have your basics, but if you are hiring a car, its well worth the trip upto Orphanides (Cyprus' answer to Tesco!!! ) where you will find plenty of fresh fish, meat etc and all your other groceries a lot cheaper than the mini markets.
We'll be over there the last week in May and the weather usually great so you should have a good time.
Thanks thats great a great help. We fly out on 10th May for 2 weeks, only 8 weeks to go (not that I'm on a count down !!!) Have you any idea of the names of the restaurants with kiddies play areas as they sound just the thing for keeping my 2 occupied? Knowing my pair we'll be living off McD's, Pizza Hut & Indians!! I'll note the name of the Cypriot answer to Tescos-wheres that located? Thanks again. Claire
One of our favourites for the kids is Hippocampus, it doesn't look much from the outside, but there is a secure playground at the back and the food is excellent and cheap!!!
Flintstones is quite good as well and that also has a secure kids area with Disney videos and kids films playing all the time. Theres a magician and various other acts on at Flintstones too and our younger 2 loved it.
You can't go wrong with Protaras though, as it is very family friendly.
Thanks for all your info you've been a great help!
Rising star has a good restaurant, you can go half board for 3 consecutive days and its good if you want to stay for kids disco. I think it was about 10 cyp pounds per adult and you could choose anything from the menu, they also have various speciality nights and the cypriot one was pretty good. As said before most of the restaurants in protaras are very family friendly and we didnt have a problem with any of them they really welcome families.
A little further down the street (opposite Odessa Hotel), Delicious - The Inn Fast Food, the place for real fast food. Open until the early hours of the morning, it is often packed at 2am with an amazing atmosphere.
In the centre of Protaras (between Sunrise Beach Hotel and Silver Sands Beach Hotel) No 1 Restaurant. Very good on grills, excellent pancakes. A good place to eat. Very popular at weekends with Cypriots.
A little further down the street past No 1 (next to Friends Pub, opposite Cheers Pub) is a small ice cream parlour open until the early hours of the morning. Excellent local ice cream.
At the far end of Protaras, just before the street curves round to the main road, Nicolas Tavern. Nicolas Tavern is an open-air, traditional Greek-Cypriot taverna, the place to eat in Protaras, especially if you want to eat traditional Greek-Cypriot food. Try the kleftico, lamb cooked for several hours in a traditional wood-fired clay oven, served in an earthenware dish with vegetables. Look in at around 11am, an you will see the clay oven being fired with wood logs. Nicolas Tavern also has a good selection of local wines from small family vineyards and wineries.

We were in Protaras 4 weeks ago and ate at Nicolas Tavern 5 nights out of 7, and for 3 of those 5 nights we both had kleftico We've been all over Greece but Nicolas kleftico is the best we've ever had, anywhere.
Nicolas = good food
I got back from Protaras last wednesday And I have to say that the best food we had was in the number 1 resturant and the staff were so friendly!
I shall certainly try the Number 1 restaurant but also Nicolas is a must as i've seen it mentioned on here many times before.

Nicolas Tavern - come out of the Vangelis onto the strip and turn right. Walk right along the strip (past the fountains) and Nicolas is near the end of the strip on the right.
No. 1 - come out of Vangelis and turn right, the restaurant is not too far from the Vangelis on the left (between Sunrise Beach and Silver Sands hotel)
Anatolia - come out of the Vangelis and turn left. Go right along the strip (past the other fountains) past MacDonalds and up to the Sfinx (Egyptian) bar on the corner and turn right, the restuarant is on the right.
