where is it?
Just got back two weeks ago and re-booked for April, we have a home on Chorao island. Found this restaurant called Zen by the side of the Bombay Bazaar. Good service and good Thai style food, cheap as well.
Went to Zen last year - had just opened and we were hassled upstairs for drinks before dinner and the waiters wouldn't leave us alone..... food was nice enough
but not Dehli Durbar - more ethnic recommends please
We had a great meal, good service, attentive but not pushy, you should maybe give it another go!!
Victoria kitchen - do you have to let her know that you're going or do you just bob in and see if there is a table
just pop in- she'll make space for you
Florentine is in Saligao, on the main Calangute/Panjim road.
Do you need to book, or do you just drop in?
Barry, we've never booked. It doesnt seem to be that kind of place. It is mainly a local eatery so things are very casual. Its not got the surroundings and glamour of somewhere like Delhi Dherber. We have found that the main thing people go to Florentines for is the Chicken Cafreal
On the other end of the scale and more "ethnic" in Calangute there is the Sparrow's Nest - great food and very inexpensive. It's close to where the petrol station used to be (not far off the Plantain Leaf), The Tibetan Kitchen is always worth a try - it's not easy to spot. You have to go down a dark path- halfway down the road to the beach between the Calangute steps and the Baga roundabout.
Have a great time and let us know what you find - I'd like some new "finds" for November!
Must ask one question tho .... if its mostly used by locals etc, what are the toilets like sorry to ask but couldnt go if they were horrible
PS. I am talking about Florentines
The foods lovely at Forentines (well the cafrael is!), but when I went 2 years ago, the toilets were best avoided!
What is cafrael
I went in October - the food (couldn't eat) (steak) and service were terrible!!
is it open yet??
restaurants I loved this time were......
Mango Grove - Candolim
East meets West - Baga
Cactus and Shepherds pie - Candolim
Would recommend Sher e Punjab on 18th June road in Panjim (right opposite Bombay Bazaar). We had an excellent meal here, don't confuse it with the Sher e Punjab Classic also in Panjim, which is in a hotel nearby, and which your taxi driver may take you to.
Would also definitely recommend Mum's Kitchen, which is about 2 miles out of Panjim on the Way to Dona Paula. This is a really clean place serving traditional Goan food and it is excellent. They also have a wide choice of seafood.
If you are going south and end up in Benaulim, Johncy's on the beach has a good menu and it's a great place to watch the sunset.
