I'm looking for somewhere nice for Christmas Day too.
I e-mailed Mamma Rosa's but they haven't replied. :(
*Update: They've replied and I've had a look on their website but it's all in Spanish so can't read. :(

Must recommend for lunch the a little place called LITTLE BRITAIN on the beach front just past Little Italy- a young Irish couple Ivan and Kathy sell the most gorgeous food and such lovely hospitality you couldnt ask for anything more. Its down about 8 steps on the promenade near the Tattoo palour.

Is that near Fanabe?

We will be staying at the club Atlantis and would like some recommendations of places to eat as we have only ever stayed in Tenerife in a hotel before. We will be going for Christmas and New Year and would like some recomendations for places to eat - we are quite fussy!

A couple of Christmases ago we stayed in Tenerife and managed to find fantastic places to eat (even though we were in a hotel, and had paid half-board, our reason for wanting to try S.C) One was the La Forteleza Del Mar for carvery, and the other was a cheap but not so cheerful Spanish run restaurant upstairs at Puerto Colon.

We would love to be able to find a carvery which doing a cracking roast beef! Maybe somewhere for a good steak, some English 'pub type' food, maybe Italian/pizza place - we don't like Indian, Chinese or fish. AND OH OF COURSE! - an all day English breakfast with back bacon and not that yucky streaky stuff! (Just for hubby!)

Thanks in advance, I'll be writing this all down so if you could tell me where abouts these places are!

Hi Lisa
Where you are staying gives you the opportunity to have some lovely meals.
I think the best restaurant around is Carlos which is actually at the front of Club Atlantis.
Verdes is a super Italian at the top of the hill, facing the shopping centre and Scotch Corner, also at the top of the hill, facing St Eugens, do a lovely breakfast.
Enjoy yourselves

Thanks for replies, I've been without the internet since I posted the question so couldn't view your answers until now, how annoying!

The places mentioned which do the english breakfast, do they do a general english menu too?

We to are in Club Atlantis christmas and new year. I can't wait 48 days and counting. Anyway back to the subject. Yes the Geordie Pride does have an english menu, there are a few english resturants at the Port we also use The Olde Lodge and the steaks are nice in there. I have not tried the resturant at the front of Club Atlantis is that on the pedestrian walkway or outside the hotel on the hill. :P

Can anyone reccomend somewhere special for me to take hubby for his 60th Birthday on 20th December in PDLA.
He likes a good steak and loves tapas too. Doesn't like Chinese food.
We won't have a car, so will need to be somewhere central (we like a walk)
Thanks,
Pat

Just back from 2 weeks in Tenerife. Stayed in Los Christianos, and never ventured to PDLA this year, so all the places below are for LC. I have listed one bad place, and all the rest are good. Both kind of reports are useful I think. Some of these restaurants are mentioned in previous posts, but it's always good to list them again. I printed out a list of places mentioned on this thread before I went and places that got repeated mentions were those places I sought out.

First up the bad.....

Gran Reserva/El Gurada I am not sure of the name of this place as both of these name are used. It is next to the central church square, further up from the same road that Fortuna is on anyway. We actually went there last year and enjoyed the food. This year was a much worse experience though. My girlfriend ordered the swordfish and when it arrived, it was like a piece of leather. We cook quite often and have eaten swordfish in many places and so know how it should be, and if it was a little bit tough my girlfriend would not have said anything. As it was, she could barely cut it. We didn't want to make a fuss, but we spoke to the waiter, and explained, and he said swordfish was always like that, which was hard to believe. He took it back, and brought another dish, but from that point on, we were treated very badly. She had her potatoes snatched away, and had to ask for them back when her replacement food arrived. When we asked for the bill we had to wait 30 mins and the staff refused to catch our eye. We felt like we were being punished and they could have handled the situation much better. We were let down badly.

And so on to the good.....

Original Bistro. Lovely staff and atmosphere. The specials were really good on the night we went. (Creamed spinach and prawns with chilli and garlic!)

La Costa Tapas. Friendly dutch owners, excellent food, the steak with garlic and rosemary was a treat.

The Olive Garden. Very nice, big portions, almost too big, the tuna steak was actually two steaks!! Good for steaks, but the wot-a-chick was really nice too.

El Romantica. Nice staff, good food, it's a tradition that we eat here on our first night now.

La Pietra. Italian fresh cooked food, friendly informative staff. You can see this from the Devon Arms pub. Not typical Tenerife place, ie you get vegetables, not chips as a side dish, but this makes a very nice change and so it's more like a normal restaurant. Sea bream cooked in salt was superb.

Hope this helps some of you out. Can't wait to get back next year.
