Was there last season (april 2005) was fine for swimming and whilst a little oil on the beach (like tar balls) wasnt a problem.
Also remember the beach is very long a few miles so you can get away from it quite easily but i would certainly recommend to go out on a fishing trip near the boat as it seems to have attracted some decent size fish to the area.

Hi all, Just thought i would let you now, had text from Adolph at lazy days , the TANKER is still there. paul.
lol read the thread on the river princess mate
Just had an email from a friend who is in Goa stating the minister concerned has promised a definite decision on the old girls fate by the end of this month. Anyone have any info. re this? we are due back in Goa in a fortnight so I guess she'll still be there ( and for a long time yet I Think) Alan
More talks !!........................could go on....and..on and....? - cue tumbleweed to blow around in the Goa offices
Every month that passes lessons the chances of it being towed away For a start it would cost far more than any possible scrap value. It will be either left to disintigrate or they will either cut it up and load it onto barges or cart it out up the beach, all these options are going to be disasterous for the beach but the time for towing it away passed years ago. Nobody other than the gverment will pick up the bill and they hav'ent got a great track record in spending £100,000s of pounds on stuff like this. Alan
The Princess is such an eyesore! We were speaking to one of the shack owners last year who said that they were going to cut it up into bits to get rid of it. But he said that they were going to do it in the Monsoon season as there will be a lot of rubbish and dirt on the beach washed up on the beach. Apparently about 8 people live on it who are security guards there to protect it! From what I don't know!
While we were there in dec a girl (think she was swedish) walked out to the princess got in through a hole in the side, tide came in and she was cut off, some one reported her missing hours later they had helicopters out searching and finally found her on board, what a worry that would have been to her family and friends.
hiya sleep r us we found out about that village idiot that swam out to the r.p. off lin b if you read her posting in goa gossip above you will get the story that she put it well cheered me up when i read it!!
Pro's
It is the first thing you see that can be recognised when flying in and that is very important after 9 hours trussed up in the fetal position of Monarch seats.
I often use it to navigate home when lost wandering along the beach.
It provides a nice calm area of sea when the waves are high.
It creates a great atmosphere of suspense - will it be there when I return or will it finally have been moved.
It provides homes to many sea birds.
It creates a nice place to fish off of the beach
You can jet ski around it (almost)
Cons
It's a lump of rusty metal spoilling an otherwise beautiful beach
So the pro's have it so far but what do the rest of you think?
The beach is also suffering towards Sinquerim / Aguada end more so during the monsoon when the high tides should come straight up the beach they are 'bending' causing high sand banks.
As for jet skiing round it - this means jet skiers are getting closer to bathers,i have just read of someone being hit at Calangute, surely this will happen near the boat soon.
My friend who owns Ganesh shack is desperate for it to go, he as said if they take it off via the beach,he will have to move and says he will not be given a new 'pitch' to set up
I like your idea of it being easy to navigate home Fritz, but my opinion is to move it.
Having seen this in photo only- I have to say it looks some monstrosity! I don't fancy sunbathing on that beach!
As far as the damage it's causing you just have to see the beach at the steps at sinquern When we were there in oct. there was a huge squad building enormous retaining walls to save the places on top sliding on to the beach. There were rocks exposed on the beach which have never been seen in the last 10years, year on year the beach gets worse & worse, I cant see how thy can scrap it during the monsoon as the seas are too rough, but the last time they tried for tenders to remove it none of the established salvors such as Smitt etc even put in tenders as the cost would be far more than the scrap value The Goan goverment is going to rue the day it allowed this disaster to drag on over the years because what would have been a simple salvage job is now a disaster unfolding before their eyes with no way out without ruining a wonderfull beach alan
I agree with Spike. We have just got back yesterday, we use James' Shack next to Ganesh and the jet skis are quite frightening now by coming in so close, as if the sea isn't scary enough!! They come in on any part of the beach now if someone wants a go, there'll be a serious accident soon.
AND FINALLY...
what ELSE is there to look out to see at, apart from a sunset, or seldom-seen dolphins?
And just to add had a decent time in brazil but goa or kerala have nothing to worry about as the resort where we stayed are miles behind in service, food, etc.
Re the last two posts, Iv'e watched it twice a year ever since it went aground and have a soft spot myself for the old girl but she's destroying sinquern beach . Every year ther's more and more damage to it. Very soon a big monsoon storm will break her back and then the whole of candolim beach will be ruined also. The goverment just have to do something before that happens, but I dont know what, and unfortunatley neither do they!! Alan
Yelpin, please pass on your address and i will park a 40 tonne wagon in front of your living room for 7 years and see if it spoils your view !
Not wanting to start an argument on this so please take that comment as tounge in cheek But i will say again - go and ask the shack owners if they are suffering loss of business ,especially the ones at Sinquerim.
