Yes.
Thanks
Yes curious about this myself as we go in 5 weeks time.
When we left on Dec 18 the entire width of the front prom road was dug up from the Los Farones hotel, at the harbour end, to the Casino at the other end. In some stretches they were also working on the pavements. It was not possible to walk that entire stretch on the beach-side pavement, you had to cross over at a number of spots. It looked like one long building site. The outlook we were given was "finished by Xmas". Unlikely....more like Easter.
Oh heck that doesnt sound to good. I have booked a flight for the second week of March and was thinking of staying in the Arena Dorada Apts , which I believe are near to McDonalds. They would be very close to all the turmoil. Looks like I'll have to rethink.
There is still huge disruption along the strip, I was down there yesterday!!! The road is still closed to traffic, although it is now possible for pedestrians to walk from the Casino to about Centro Atlantico via the new pavements. There are still very few crossing points for one side to t'other however. It's a mess I'm sorry to say, not helped by the recent rains either You can at least walk on the beach side of the road now, though not sure if that's right to the Fariones or not.....I only went as far as the Sports Bar.....so didn't notice the rest.
Think ill change my name to lucky! I was in Los cristianos 2 years ago when it was all dug up for new roads now this! We go in 3 weeks, not happy. Ive had alook on a web cam and it looks a real mess.
It is Carper, but I have to say, the bars and restaurants are all still open, some with amusing signs such as "Digger Watch Day 2009" outside!!!!!!! It is surprising the amount of people who actually sit/stand and watch the roadworks The beach is still beautiful, and don't forget the strip in PDC is only a very small part of a very lovely island!
We will make the most of it but I definately wont be sat watching road works!! seen the island several times before so was just hoping to chill out this time on the beach. Oh well be better than the uks winter.
If the front is closed to traffic, how on earth would you get to your accomodation if you had suitcases. Many of the streets are one way off the front. Is the only way to be dropped off at the top and haul your cases down the hill.
No, the one way traffic system has been changed, but yes, you will not be dropped off on the front, so you will have to haul your luggage at some point, if you want to stay on the seafront.
I've known about the roadworks for a while since reading it on here but now wondering if we'll be ok to get to the Cinco Plazas in our taxi from the airport this week? Not sure how close this is to the roadworks?
No problem at all anniec, the way the roads are, I think you will be dropped off right outside Cinco Plazas
Thanks madsue that's good to know as we'll have my elderly father with us and although he's pretty mobile (we know Cinco Plazas is on a hill) it would have probably been a struggle with our luggage.
my mum and dad returned from PDC a couple of days ago and had a really fab holiday. We were chatting and they said that the harbour was rubbish and cordoned off due to ongoing works.
The beach is still beautiful,
I asked dad about the beach and he said there was no beach Don't know where he'd been looking for the beach then
was his accommodation in the old town ? perhaps he didnt go down the main strip ?
Still it's a good excuse for your parents to come back again
Pictures of the roadworks here:-
Can see where in places it does look a right mess and not so bad in others.
The report says they hope to have it 'up together' and passable for the Carnival at the end of Feb, to go along the front. What date is the the carnival usually? And I guess it gets really busy in all the bars, more than usual? We fly on the 22nd Feb.
