the athena hotel is about 2years old direct access on to the beach

air conditioning and t.v in rooms sounds very grand but a very laid back place - with nice staff. the pool is very big . what i`m really saying is what you see in the brochure is exactly right.
see you in the athens bar no not the hotel the original athens bar just before the athena hotel

mail me if you can`t get booked

Hi there. We stayed at the Athina last year for a fortnight half board and it was absolutely fantastic. The rooms are very big and absolutely spotless. We were on the top floor in the end room so we had two balconies that overlooked the pool. The view at night was gorgeous. The staff were great and the cleaners were in every day.

The pool is lovely as well but freezing, we preferred to go to the beach which is a minutes walk from the pool down the boardway. The sea is lovely and warm. It was one of the best holidays we have had.

Hi billiz & championi

It's been a while since I last checked out this post and there wasn't any responses then, thanks for yours.

I decided to book 2wks s/c in Holiday Village Viva in Can Picafort, Majorca (20th Jul) in the end but I still like the sound of San Stefanos and am considering it for next year.

Problem still is, if the kids are bored they'll make it hard work so I need to know what there is to do in the day & evening. They'll be 15 & 13 then and they don't like Butlins type entertainment but would like somewhere they can hang out with other young teenagers. Some resorts (like the one we're going to) have activities geared up for this age group where they can get away from the parents. We're not the sort of parents that want them off our hands, afterall it is a family holiday, but they enjoy the freedom.

Do you know if there are watersports on the beach? Are there a mix of bar with lively atmospheres as well as quieter ones? Also it sounds like there are only a handful of bars and restaurants in the village, is that so?

Thanks for any response

Hi mer , the village is small`ish but that makes it safe for the young`uns to wander about at night-to a degree- in saftey, the night life is enough not rowdy not quiet. In 5 years we have seen maybe 1/2 a dozen drunks,
we have 1 disco, several pubs with entertainment for all but mostly the young ones want to hang out playing pool or hang aroung with the others kids all ages . There are water sports for day time but again the kids just talk ride bikes etc. Sidari night life is 10 mins. away by car or bus but i think you will find the kids are happy in the village. The young greek kids are very friendly and mix well.

so we will see you next year then :wave

San Stefanos is definitely at the top of the list for next year :hyper

Is it ok if I pm you with other questions? With actually living there you must know everything there is to know!

Thanks again

Came back from san stefanos recently. Lovely peaceful break for me and partner, but would definitely have been too quiet for my teens.
Theres not much shopping and we only saw one livelyish bar. Mind you we did go low season but can't really see the tempo picking up that much later on

Hi Bunty

I had a feeling that might be the case. It sounds perfect for hubby & me but if the kids are bored, none of us will be happy. It looks like we're going to have to put their needs before ours - again!

Can you suggest anywhere? Where did you go with your teens?

Hi Mer

Know exactly what you mean about putting kids interests before your own again! But lets face it if the kids are bored then none of you are allowed to enjoy it!

I separated 2 years ago and had a holiday in Turkey at Olu Deniz, Club Belcekis with kids and grandparents - late 70's! but we all had a good time.

Taking kids on my own this August to Majorca, Alcudia suites in Alcudia, sounds good from web reports, think they will love it but may well be too hot/comercialised/busy for me. But then there will be good weather and a pool and a sunbed...so it will be fine.

I look at the brochures and pick a decent quality accommodation offering some entertainment in a middle size resort not in the middle of nowhere but not in Magaluf etc with decent flight times. Was going to say not had a bad holiday yet but - went to Tsilivi Zakynthos Hotel Mavrikos years ago- that was the pits!!

Can also recommend Icmeler in Turkey

Hi bunty47

I can't get San Stefanos out of my head. Do you know if there are any lively resorts nearby that we could easily bus into in the day or evening. I wouldn't want to stay somewhere too busy but I could cope with visiting in order to keep the kids satisified. If not, we'll have to save SS for when we holiday on our own.

I'm going to have a look at the other destinations you mentioned too.

Thanks

Do you know if the buses run frequently and what sort of time they stop at night?

Hi Mer,
I think there's about 3 or 4 buses during the day sorry can't be more helpful as we used taxis which were only 12 euros

Thanks everyone

I'm going to spend some time looking at all the sites mentioned. This year's hols will be the first my kids are spending abroad (Majorca in 4 wks time :hyper ), so I'll see how they get on there and then I'll be in a better postion to gauge how much entertainment they want before booking for next year. I'd like to book as early as poss, so more questions will probably follow on our return.

thanks again

Been to San Stefanos more times than I can remember, started going with my Parents when I was a kid now 28 and still going back.

There are a couple of websites that might help you out

http://www.sanstefanos.co.uk

and

http://www.aqualand-corfu.com - Which is a massive water park further down the island, quite a way to go but you can get a bus and spend the whole day and it is brilliant fun (bit of a big kid me)

Going back this year at beginning of September with my Sister.

If you need any more info or want some pics or anything just let me know

:wow shreds!

I checked out the sites you posted and they're both fantastic. Just the sort of hol me & hubby love.

Still concerned about the kids though. Can you remember how you entertained yourself when you were there as a teenager? There's nothing worse for older kids than traisping around behind the parents. Is there anywhere they can go (to meet up with other kids) and get a little freedom from us?

It really depends what they like to do. There are the water sports on the beautiful beach. There are loads of swimming pools and bars which now almost all have Pool tables.

Sidara is not far round the coast with another water park (Not as good as Aqualand) and lots of other stuff to do.... And a McDonalds as well which unless I am very much out of touch they would love.

They do quad bikes as well but not sure how happy you would be about them using them.

Arrilas is a short walk over the hill but is similar to San Stefanos just a little more lively but not much.

When I was there I just hung out with all the other kids\teenagers that were there and had a great time.
