in that case, may i ask what you do,
because in my opinion there arent many "honest" jobs.
I bet there are more 'honest' jobs that can be listed rather than DISHONEST!!
but lets think for a minute,
Estate Agents. - trust them as far as you can throw them
Recruitment Consultants. - if you think they are on your side, soooo think again.
Lawyers - probably the lowest of the low.
Solicitors - 12 pounds for sending ME a letter??????
Politicians - always tell the truth, not!
Plumbers - overpricing, yeah its 300 for tools. oooh, the pipes burst it'll need replacing, blah blah
Builders - as above
Electricians - as above
IT Contractors - will take a while to explain. the most selfish people in history.
Stockbrokers - Buy when you should sell, sell when you should buy.
Double Glazing Salespeople - enough said, but everyone has it
Advertising Sales People - selling ad space they know wont work
Travel Agents - especially the ones on the phone.
Kitchen salespersons - LOL, what a joke, they ask for 12,000 upwards and if you dont but, they mysteriously find a discount price until you can afford it......
Lets think of industries that are far from honest....
Pharmeceuticals
Government
Sportswear
Restaurants
Recruitment
Real Estate
Oil
Gas
Banking
Travel (agents)
this is just the top of my head...
but lets take an example.
Hi my names Paul, im an opc for a timeshare company.
Hi my names John, im an Account Director for the 2nd largest property consultancy in London
or
Hi Im Sarah, Im a barrister working for one of the top law firms in the country.
or even better.
Hi im Louise, and Im in Brand Marketing for Nike.
Would that be the same company that pays poor indians 5 cents an hour to stitch theor footballs.
or the same law firm that overcharges small firms, because they can.
or the same property consultancy that oversells a house by 20,000, because the poor old couple that have bought don't know any different.
---
I could go on and on.
end of the day there are not many companies that are honest.
--
The way timeshare is sold is wrong, I agree. and there are many dodgy companies that have existed in the past.
I'm not saying timeshare is good. Im not saying that people should buy it. Though there are over 11 million timeshare holders worldwide. The majority of them happy, a fair amount unhappy.
I just wanted to put a few things straight on some of the misconceptions of timeshare and timeshare touts.
another off the top of my head...
You buy a car from a showroom, as soon as it leaves it loses about a grand , maybe more of its value.
ha! car dealers.. bloody hell.
its like you see opc's as scum.
We dont ask for any money off you, we dont want you to buy anything, we dont want you to sign anything, ever. In fact, we hope you got to the presentation, and get out as soon as possible, so we can put another couple through the door.
We stop you, give you a scratchcard, tell you that youve won a prize, either cash, a holiday or a camcorder (normally they are the prizes). The catch is you have to look round a hotel, stay 90 minutes, and collect your prize.
The only thing we dont tell you is that its timeshare, and that the cash and camcorder don't exist. so yes we are lying, but do you know what, some people actually want to win the holiday.
When you go to rent a house and the agent says, youll have to make your mind up soon as we have two others interested - guess what they are LYING.
When an advertising salesperson says the price has dropped from 1000 to 600 because they need to get rid of the last slot, guess what they are lying.
When you see an advert on the internet,. Do you really think its a real advert??? NO, its just a tool to get you to submit your CV.
----------------------------------------------
We dont force you to go, we dont hold a gun to your head. We use chit chat and common sales techniques to persuade you to go.
Do you see PR's for restaurants in the same light????
"hello, come in and try our special fish caught today". are you telling me that if they have fish leftover from yesterday that they are going to give you the one caught today, or even buy fresh fish in the first place.....
------------
Charities!!!!!!!!!!!
You think your being helpful giving to a charity, yes and very much no.
That person you see on the street with a bright yellow top and a clipboard. They earn 300 a week plus, and thats a commision only job.
Give us a pound a week to help people in africa..............give 10 pence more like and 90 due to admin,,,admin my arse.
Id hate to guess what the companies earned.
----
so anyway, just more of a rant. but what can i say, timeshare touts will never shake off the reputation they have, because we work on the street, and we are persistent / annoying, but thats life. Its not going to go away.
Just like those pesky phone calls when eastenders is on with some bloke in indian asking if your happy with your mobile phone.
blah blah blah, ill shutup now.
good.
Have a nice day
End of the day your going to get touts that will be persistent, but a simple no thanks, or similar is all thats required.
.........if they all talk like you do do you think they will take a 'no thanks' and that will be the end of it !!!
I have seen honest 'normal' people humilitiated by these morons who, when they get bored in the heat of the day, see their potential customers as fodder to take the P out of.
I have nothing but contempt for those that do this.
evryone has to earn a living, we all do it in different ways.
Just a bit of information for you. My husband and I are self employed, he is an electrician. I wish to god he could charge £300 per job because then it wouldn't have taken us many years to be able to afford to move to where we have always wanted to. What you must realise that these people i.e. plumbers, electricians and the like have spent years at college learning their trade earning next to nothing in the meantime and also have to return to college every three years (in the case of electricians) to take exams in the new regulations. They have to pay for these courses themselves. Also with regard to their tools, if you had done a hard days work in your life you would know how much industrial drills, testers and the multitude of other equipment they need for their work costs. One of the drills that my husband needs costs over £600, who pays for that when it breaks - answer he does. Don't start dictating about things you know nothing about. I bet your one of these people who call my husband at 11 o clock at night with an 'emergency' only to find out after travelling half way across London that there is no money on the electric meter because you forgot to top up - sorry forgot you were too busy scamming others. At the end of the day why do people need electricians, plumbers and builders? probably because they haven't got a clue about these things themselves so need a professional to do the job.
We own Timeshare and have done for over 16 years but there is no way in a million years that I would buy after being dragged in off the streets. We bought ours after booking a holiday at the resort. Everything is done in-house and they do not need touts to help them sell their facilities. If companies need to employ these tactics to drum up business then they can't have much going for them in the first place. Why would you do this kind of work when you know so many people are against Ticket Touts? surely it makes your work and your targets even harder to achieve, especially now as so many people are aware of them due to all the TV and press coverage lately.
Go on get a proper job - I dare you
to be honest with myself about this topic i found the "Timeshare" touts this holiday in tenerife quite thin on the ground and not so pushy, compaired to my last visit (12 years ago) what really got me this time was the looky looky guys and gals on the evenings you must get asked between 30/40 times each evening to buy there wares, this as so put me off the island and i know i have had my last visit to tenerife never to return, the restraunt touts wasn't really overpowering, apart from the Aberdeen steak house's (i'd rather starve first)
I know what you mean about the looky looky men but at least a smile and a no thanks will suffice with them. We have had some good chats and laughs with them in the past - unlike the touts who only seem to want to have a chat and laugh when things are going their way. As many people have stated when they realise you are not biting they can turn really nasty.
Regards Jackie
i think its just a shame really that people have and will be detered from visiting these island's because of timeshare touts, when i wonder will it run its cause and let people be and let us enjoy our holidays without trying to duck and dive from these vultures, wouldn't it be good to talk to each other through the day without that other person thinking "whats she/he selling now" its a shame the everyone just ignores each other through the day just in case thay have a scratch card ready to hand out, after all theres only 4 big winning cards on the whole island!!!!!!! got to laugh, more like 4 million, i picked loads up and every one was a main prize winner, i only picked them up to see who printed them or who was the promoter, or a web site, guess what, yes your right nothing for you to get any info on them what so ever
First of all the lookie lookie guys smile and take no for an answer.
Dogwindy I dont think anyone on here has anything against someone making a few quid.
Its when they are downright nasty, as the touts this year were to us in PDLA (on the beach side just up from McDonalds).
Smile and say "thank you" are you seriously taking the piddle?
...............we tried that and they started imitating our Irish accents and being generally abusive. There were four of them in a bunch and two more about ten yards further on. They were rude and nasty and I can only hope the reason they were so aggressive was because they had earned sweet F.A. all that day!
And they werent the only ones. My husband and I are not shrinking violets, but we are nice pleasant people who dont want to get involved in a slanging match on our way to the beach...............to chill out as WE WORK BLOODY HARD ALL YEAR.
So dont tell me that a smile and a polite refusal works..............maybe with some of em....................but not the majority we encountered.
And as for you laughing at people pretending to be German etc.........some people just cant be assed with the confrontation everywhere they go, and thanksfully there are others on here who are willing to give them a few tips on how to avoid it.
.........if they all talk like you do do you think they will take a 'no thanks' and that will be the end of it !!!
I have seen honest 'normal' people humilitiated by these morons who, when they get bored in the heat of the day, see their potential customers as fodder to take the P out of.
I have nothing but contempt for those that do this.
Sorry have to add......the above says it all for me, thank you for that quote.
And Dogwindy................did you ever hear the quote
"Methinks thou dost protest too much"
ive not had the pleasure of working in tenerife, and will not in the future as it is known s the timeshare capital of the world, where bully tactics are used, tho less common now.
In gran canaria i beleive they are limited to certain areas, and kiosks, and even use a form of straight pitching, where couples know exactly what they are letting themselves in for, in exchange for boat trips, cigerretes and alcohol etc.
the best way to stop them in their tracks is to say your going home in an hour, or that went on a presentation already.
something like did it this morning or yesterday
hope that helps.
The name certainly suits you.
You have written so much on this thread you must be the touts' teacher, blah blah blah and more blah, you are making it hard for anyone to get a word in ...................
Just wondering what the tout situation is like in December, obviously there will be less prey around so hopefully there wont be so many?
Weve stayed at the Parque Santiago III which is just beside the Mare Nostrum, and its definately not as bad in the winter in the summer
But they are still there!
If you are walking along the beach towards the centre of PDLA and someone says they are offering discount off meals in the hotel just beside the gym and dance class place (forgotten the name of it).........or even free vouchers to try the gym/dance class place
WALK ON!
They wont ruin you holiday certainly, but life would be so much better without them!
what if you want to do a gym class though?
Then call on my son when we are out there, he is a personal trainer.
There are no where near as many touts in the area, just back, and we weren't approached once this time. Yipee! Carpe Diem's offices are still there, but not a sign of any of the masses of touts that used to hang around the area.
