hello..... im not sure whether its worth firing off a complaint letter to thomas cook/thomsons... heres what happened...
Playa Bella apartments, san antonio bay, ibiza.
Firstly we booked our holiday via thomascook using thomas cook airlines flying from Aberdeen. Unfortunately we were told that they were cancelling our flights and they offered us flying from glasgow or newcastle or a new holiday. None of these were an option for us, we couldnt get anywhere else but aberdeen as we had 5 cases, 2 buggies and 5 of us and it doesnt fit in the car!! Anyway.... we found the same holiday via thomsons and thomson airways. However, our original 3 bedroomed apartment had to be down graded to a two bedroomed one and we had to PAY and EXTRA £200. which we did as we wanted a holiday....
So that was fine... but the holiday was ruined by 18-30s groups. when discussing our holiday with thomascook the lady told us there would be a small amount but primarely she assured me it was a family hotel and a family resort. the hotel was overrun with the groups, they swore, left rubbish, were noisy (we didnt sleep properly for the 2 weeks), they filled the pool with their lilos, they slopped in the kids splash pool..... i took lots of photos for evidence.
we did complain to the rep but she just filled out a form and that was that.
we complained to reception who tried their best to warn them but nothing changed for the 2 weeks.
the complaint may be silly to some but for me i felt like we were missold our holiday.
I'm wondering why there was such a price difference between the 3 bedroomed apartment and the 2 bedroomed one. Did the TA give you any idea as to why the 2 was more?
I agree with Glynis that I doubt you'd get anywhere with a letter of complaint, especially as it was TC who originally told you it was suitable for families. thomson would probably tell you that nobody from their company advised you of this.
If it was advertised as an 18-30 type hotel I would complain to them.
Last week I saw an offer for a hotel in Bulgaria in Thomsons window.
I asked them which hotel it was and when I was told I knew it was an 18-30 hotel ,now called Twenties.
There is no way I would ever go to a hotel that was mostly for young folks but the travel agent didnt seem to realise this.
I luckily had done some research otherwise I could be spending this week in a rave hotel.

I understand the booking change Shirley but I'm finding it hard to justify how, a 2 bedroomed apartment can become more £200, more expensive than a 3 bedroomed apartment purely through a change of TO.
bev,
you need to check how thomson advertise this hotel. if they advertise it as a family hotel then certainly complain.
however, before you start this process, which can take an age, you need to be realistic in what you expect from thomson. if it was a family hotel you will have a better case, but i doubt you will get much more than a "thank you for informing us" and possibly a voucher off a future holiday.
if you are looking for anything more than this then i would contact simpson millar the solicitors, their details are in the complaints section, who will be able to tell you what options you have and how best to deal with this complaint.
Have just looked at the Thomsons website and it describes these apartments as having "family appeal".
The agent can only go off the information they have, which seems to be that it is fairly family orientated. They can't help the type of guests which were there at that time. The majority of the reviews are quite good, so maybe just an unruly group that happened to be there at the same time as you?
That's a very good point Sunaddict. If it wasn't specifically advertised as an 18-30 holiday hotel then the TO can't be held responsible for the guests.
The hotel IS ideal for families..... IF there are no large groups of 18-30s lol!!!
Never mind, trying not to dwell on it and looking forward to my next abroad hol in 2014 for my wedding!!!
I went as a family and thought that it would be full of likewise holiday makers.
After noticing a few 18/30's coming down to the pool late afternoon i realised it wouldn't be full of just families.
Now i'l be honest here, yes they made a bit of noise, and they jumped in the pool and floated on li lo's. But so did my kids earlier, the only difference in the noise level was you heard the 18/30's more as the splash pool was turned off.In truth a lot of them didn't come poolside till late afternoon at a time when some people especially with young children were leaving to get ready to go out.
I got talking to a few of the 18/30's during my stay as they were in the rooms next and above me. It turned out they were there as they couldn't get booked in San Antonio itself ,so this was the next best option. When i said they'd woken up my other half the pevious morning they appologised and to be fair they never woke us again. The one did make a point which i had to concede to. He said everyone is moaning about us, what about you so called adults, as we're coming in in the morning your all lined up like the start of a race to get the sunbeds. It says terrace open 8-30 your down there at 7-45. Then you go back to your rooms and come back 3 hours later.I had to agree with him on that one.
Now yes, there were a few of them who were idiots and thought it funny to throw/spit things into the street from their balcony, but you can get that anywhere. As for leaving a mess, well, there are adults there who have set a not very good example to their kids on how to dispose of litter thats for sure, obviously a bin in the middle and one in each corner of the terrace and one in each corner of the poolside is not enough for some people.
