Take a sample to your doctor immediately. There are a number of things you could have and many need a specific antibiotic to get rid of them. Avoid preparing food and be particularly careful washing your hands. I had a similar thing in the Gambia a number of years ago, and was kept off work until the bug was identified, it was campylobacter, and I lost almost two stones in weight. The sooner the baug is identified the better.
You've had this for 15 days?? What is your doctor doing? You have seen him/her I hope!
My daughter caught Campolybacter in Goa in november and needed antibiotics.
The best advice and it really worked was to take Colonimax Probiotic Capsules for 2 weeks before I travelled and all through the holiday. Most people suffered tummy upsets and sickness but we did not.
Please do not read the next part if you have a sensitive disposition... I have poo like a jetbike propulsion system!
My advice to everyone who has these symptoms over here is to eat boiled potatoes with lots of salt (plain, filling and also helps rehydrate you). But do go and see the doctor!
I got campylobacter a few years ago in Goa, I was off work for 6 weeks, also got home visits from the environmental health officer. It's not nice and I can sympathise with you. Please go to your GP and get it sorted out.
If you go down fairly early in your holidays and the usual things are done such as only fluids for 24hrs. etc and the condition persists you could try a five day course of Norfloxacin tabs. one morning and night, thats the specific antibiotic recommended for this condition in India. Over the years I have only had to go down this route a couple of times but it did the trick very quickly. Antibiotics are'nt something you should take lightly, but if it means averting a ruined holiday it's a course worth considering As a footnote, the last time I had to use them, I had been taking Probiotic tablets for a couple of months, but the bad bugs won!! oh you poor thing..as said you need to get to your doctor. immodium is intended for short term use only ie: a couple of doses/days and will not cure the cause of your diahorrea as youve found. immodium will help if you've just eaten something a bit 'off' until it clears your system ( very minor )although personally i think if your ill whatever has made you ill is better coming out!!! if you know what i mean. i would only ever use immodium if i was away & had a trip planned & didnt know if there was going to be a ready supply of loos around. effects of food poisoning that last as long as yours is caused by a bacteria ( various diff types) and WILL need antibiotics to clear it up.
Thanks for all your replies. I have been to the doctor today and he has given me a course of antibiotics + tablets for the diarrhoar. I know I should have gone long ago, but I thought it would clear up in time. Thanks again.
hope you get better soon. Has he given you any tests?
I had exactly the same thing and arrived back 10 days ago. I am still not fully recovered and am due to see the doctor on Friday. It is very rare for me to go to doctors but with symptoms still persisting I have been advised to do that. Its mainly nausea, loss of appetite and discomfort after eating anything. Will post again at the weekend.
Sounds like we had the same illness. After four days of pills I am much better. Hope you will be soon.
i too have been suffering from the bug 10 days while there, i needed to watch where we went ,needed to be not far from toilet ,heared alot of people when returning in airport mention it too ,never had a problem before .
I'm suffering now... which isn't nice.... I've had slight symptoms the last week but it's getting worse... Just been on the net and looked at possible cures... So probably just going to stay on liquids...
