You can exchange sterling at hotels, supermarkets and the ski centre there- check for the best rate. Also only take notes over which are not ripped or dirty.

Hello Folks, some advise required please.... I'm heading to Bulgaria (Bovorvets) skiing in Feb and I'm wondering if I'm better off to hire ski equip/pass etc via the ski company or who easy is hiring the ski equip out there....
any replies would be gratefully received...
many thanks
Colum
it is cheaper to sort out the package while in the uk. It is a lot more expensive to do so in resort- some say it doubles in price!!! Have you got any costings so far?

By the way- forgot to welcome you to HT!
Hi Dawnie,Haven't been there myself but just spoken to my mate and she says that there are at least 2 ATM's that she is aware of 1 is situated in the foyer of the Murgavets Hotel and the other is next to the Perelik Hotel which is at the top of the steps by the bank. She says that she used her Nationwide debit card and that there were no charges made for any of her withdrawals.
Hope this is of some help to you
Cheers
Scruffyish
thanks for that Scruffyfish. ( husband obviously wasn't observant enough!!)
no prices yet hiring direct in Bulgaria... but I have all the prices from the tour operator... which are normal enough.. £130 mark....
I have heard the ski pass bought in Bulgaria is £100. Best to check for yourself if you can though.
ski passes are quoted by the agents roughly at £89 but with ski equip hire n tution etc is the £137 exactly...
many thanks for you replies....

Hi, Just come back from Borovets. We were beginners and had a fabulous time. We went with Balkan holidays and apart from the in flight food being abysmal, the hotel ( RILA) etc was great. Definitely hire the gear from the UK, it is cheaper especially the lift passes and so on. Our instructor Kosta is very good, try to get in his class if you can and had us up the top of the mountain on the second day. Snow conditions are better up on the top of the mountain, so aim for the gondola, to get you there. Queues build fast in a morning, get there for about 9am or leave it until 11am. Bars and resturants are hard to recommend as everyone has different tastes but the Hotel Alpin has a good selection and the quality is excellent. You will need to book a table. Also there is a resturant opposite the RILA which has lots of green umbrellas " Zagorka" on them. This is small but serves great food( Burning Hell Pizza hmmm) and they speak good english. Nightlife is varied but because we have a 9 year old we never made it past midnight. She I would add loved the skiing and is better than us.
Borovets offers a good selection of slopes for all levels and if you just remember that Bulgaria is still growing then you will have a fantastic time. If you want pictures, we can email them or visit bulgariaski.com and they have a webcam.
Enjoy yourself

Welcome to HT whoopsy. I have been quite surprised that we have not had more ski queries before now. It is great to hear back from people who have hit the ski slopes. Would you be able to do a hotel report for us? I have asked for your hotel to be added to our review pages. Hope you can stick around and help to answer ski questions!
Can anyone tell me if it is possible to get private ski tuition and if so how can go about booking this before we get there.
Hi Caroline. It is possible to get private tuition in Borovets and there are plenty of places offering this and ski hire etc. Unfortunately how you book it is another matter! It seemed people were just booking it on the fly. I don't know what level you are, but my best advice is, if you are travelling with a tour company to book it through them. That way you will pay less and not run the risk of getting ripped off. Definitely do this if you are a beginner. Have a great time, our instructor said the snow is at it's best around now - mid march.
Hi Fiona,
Off to Bovorets on Saturday with other half and 2 children. Will report back on my return. Regards. Yvette

I would find it interesting. Looks like we don't have many who go on ski packages.
Have a great time!
