Sorry but I found there to be less hastle and an insider (relation of a Turkish person) told us that if they were caught doing it their restaurant would be closed for three days, I would believe it as they appeared almost respectful when they caught you looking at their prices and they asked politely would you like to come in/back/or stay for dinner and free entertainment, (yes I know it would be free anyway), but I did appreciate it, my youngest son who would not go there this year due to the hastling (and heat) said awwwww., when we told him about the big sign over the main Marmaris Road that said no hassle, and he was nearly sorry he did not go, well I did beg him for 6 months to come with us, ah well always next time, hopefully.

In Marmaris at the moment and I dont think the hassle is any worse than other years. Personally I dont find it a hassle at all. There appears to be a campaign called ' No Hassle' this year with banners and posters all around. I am told that the numbers are up in August but were pretty poor from the start of the season through to the end of July.

Reading a few threads it appears that there has been a definite drop in numbers of people visiting turkey recently ?
Any reason for this ?
Due to the constant hassle by restaurant/bar owners ? or prices on the up ?

the main reason we were told was bird flu lots of people cancelled their hols around jan time and therefore lots of flights were cancelled, also the world cup didnt help, its about 40% down this year, my mother lives there and said its so much quieter than shes seen it for the time of year

When we visited Imeler AGAIN in May we were told that so many had cancelled due to the Bird Flu scare. We were due to fly from Birmingham but then we were told we had to fly from East Midlands :( We did ask a rep there and they confirmed that flights had to be covered due to the people who had cancelled with the scare. Had a fab time. Happy hols. Anna xxxxxxx

Hassle is a topic that is uppermost on the mind of the Mayor of Marmaris ...so much so that a dedicated website has been set up to report any cases of hassle on tourists..click on to http://www.visionmarmaris.com to report any that has bothered you... :fly

After five year in a row going to Turkey, we deciced to give it a miss this year. One of the reasons for this was the prices (especially drinks) shooting up.

Sorry Big Phil I myself am tea total and i dont mean any offence at all, but if it was the price of DRINKS that put you off, I myself would have gone to Icmeler and died of thirst. 1st!!!! Sorry thats my point . Bye Anna xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

we returned from Marmaris earlier this month, didn't find the hassel any worse than in other years, infact with the Vision thing it was marginally better.

With regards to the prices, didn't seem to notice it myself. Was still having a nice 3 course meal with drinks & brandy after for about £12. Reckon we'd pay more than that for the steak around here!

i am a recent turkey convert but still find it really cheap

a 32oz steak meal, large chicken platter, chicken nuggets and chips, 2 large efes, 2 waters all for £21 - how is that expensive???

we spent £800 between 3 of us for 2 weeks and got drunk a few times!!

A lot less hassle, this year, as for the prices of drink, a pound a pint I don't know anywhere else you can get that, the prices seem to have dropped this year.

Would like to know where BigPhil thinks he can get cheaper drinks and a friendlier smile from the locals than in Turkey. Would certainly not let drinks prices stop me going to Turkey.

For what it's worth, bird flu and the world cup were all given as possible reasons for the drop in numbers in Kalkan. Many also said that the ownership of villas and apartments had meant more people staying at their own place in the sun and not venturing out as much.

A bit of eveything I'd say (except the price of drinks!!).

I've just been trying to get a late deal together for a friend - I know it is peak time (Mid August) but she did not care where she went.

I could not believe how difficult this was - she was prepared to fly at 8 hours notice from one of three regional airports. However, having tried just about anywhere short haul in Mid Europe & Canaries there was absolutely nothing without rubbish flight times, rubbish accommodation left and no bargains.............However, I was amazed to find the ONLY exception was Turkey...lots of flights and loads of choice of accommodation and some great deals. She did not really want to visit Turkey due to the health scares but in the end there was little option - and she has gone !

I'm sure she is having a fabulous time though - she had a great deal on a 5* hotel in Marmaris in the end. :D

can't wait till my holiday in September. We had a meal for my birthday here last week. Only a pub meal. Lamb, burger, lasagne and ham egg and chips. There were 4 of us, wasn't being greedy. 2 wine and sodas, 4 pints and pineapple and lemonade £55. Wasn't an expensive pub but no idea how people find it expensive compared to Alizda's meal Know where i'd prefer to be eating
