Just a quick post just now of some quick notes I made (I will write them properly later), I will write a full report but here's a few quick notes that I jotted down whilst there, (I will write them properly later), and I will sort out some photo's as well but here's a little taster on what was a wonderful holiday
A perfect Goan Day......went to Panjim the capital of Goa and had a fabulous breakfast in a local cafe' called Sanyog...best samosas ever with a lovely coconut/chilli chutney for all of 9 rps each (12p) we then went on a walk through the steets and markets taking in all the sounds, wonderful sights colours and smells that make up a Goan town. We then wandered through the fruit and the fish markets before taking a stroll up the side of the Mondovi River watching the fisherman and just people watching. Further up the River bank you come to the gymnkanna and we sat and watched a girls cricket match for a while, a little further up and all the school children were out squealing with delight as we took their photos and then each and everyone shaking our hands saying thank you and grinning from ear to ear. Then 5 minutes by car is Dona Paulo a great spot for lunch with stunning views up the coast and gorgeous bays. Then onto Cartolim for an afternoon on the Zuari River birdwatching and crocodile watching up the river and through the mangroves and canals, the sun setting just as we were nearing the estuuary on the way back....just stunning. Then back to the hotel for the friendly Goan welcome.....a real home from home....a quick shower and then off to the wonderful Riverview Restaurant for great food, brilliant music from Neil and Daryl in stunning suroundings......
The perfect Goan view..........
After a lovely relaxing day on a gorgeous beach just strolling, swimming and chilling with the Jock family, followed with a late lunch of chicken chow mein for 80rps and a beer for 30 rps I sat back down at the sun bed. The sun was just beginning to lower in the sky with the light dancing over the sea, to the left of me, one of the oar driven fishing boats was just starting to cast it's nets. In front of me Jnr Jock was playing cricket with the locals and to the right of me was miles of gorgeous white sand and palm tree's. Then just to complete the perfect scene, three dolphins started playing, jumping clear out of the water over and over again..........
Morning walk.......
Set off around 0630 on the first morning of our stay, turned left outside the hotel and within two minutes I was at the village crossroads with the gleaming white church and the sounds of early morning mass echoing around the square. The drinks, samosa, fresh bread and rolls stall was just beginning to set up as was the small locals cafe'. I then sat on a small part of terracing at Cavelossim's "field of dreams".......Santa Cruz's football pitch which is just a red dirt pitch with a clubhouse and a small section of terracing. A plaque stands talking of laying the foundation of the a new pitch......as I sat and watched the sun rise over the hills in the distance and works it's way up the palm tree's behind the clubhouse I just thought.......santa Cruz's "Field Of Dreams" it really was a stunning view. From there I walked back to the cross-roads watching all the school children in the uniforms making there way to school either the local one or waiting to catch a bus, some along with their brothers or sisters casually sitting on their fathers scooters as he drove them to school.....yes the village was well and truly awake...........
The following morning I took the ferry road down towards Assolna......the steam was rising off the fields as I watched egrets, kites, herons and kingfishers go about their morning business......then down to the ferry as locals made their way to work wearing jackets and me in my sandals shorts and loose cotton shirt.......as I walked back after watching the sunrise above the Western Ghats I saw in the distance what looked like 40 or 50 crows flying in perfect formation........I thought that looked strange and then I looked up as they flew across the road and I realised that they were in fact large Fruit bats.....they must have forgotten their watches as it was now around 0730 and I have never seen fruit bats doing anything other than roosting, hanging from tree's during daylight. It really was an awesome sight I have expected Batman to come walking down the street......I walked on back in to the village Christmas carols were now playing out of some of the house's, I walked past Kennedy's the small local bar and then the garage whih has a bakery just behind it and oh the fresh smell of bread mmmmm mmmmm.......school children were again meandering up the lane some on bikes as they made their way to school and of course then the bread boy on his bike ringing his bell as he made his deliveries. The sunlight was creating shafts of light through the palm tree's and across the lane, which seemed to just complete the scene......it was then time to go back to the hotel and wake the rest of the Jocks up get some breakfast and then let the next adventure begin...............
p.s. Apologies for any spelling mistakes and lack of punctuation I'll blame the jet-lag as I've been up since 5am but am flagging now....so off to get a coffee and look at photo's of the Goan sunrise and a village waking up to make me smile.......by the way it's dark and freezing bcak in Scotland
if this was a first post I would be assuming it was someone from the Goa Tourist Board Brilliant!

I haven't been on the forum much lately, as the Goa I know and love, seemed to have dissapeared, now I know it's still there.
best wishes xx lassi
Glad you and your family had a brill time
As some will know my Dad passed away last year and this year my Mum came with us for her first trip to Goa, here's the story of her first day..............The excitement had been building all day as we sat in Weatherspoons at Gatwick chatting excitedly about all the adventures that might follow, the flight was perfect (well almost more of that in a minute) less than 9 hours and I really couldn't complain about the Thomas Cook plane decent legroom back-seat TV's etc. The wings tipped as we prepared to land and my Mum got her first glimpse of the Arabian Sea down below as blue as ever and the quaint Goan fishing boats bobbing up and down, my Mums face just gleamed as the plane made it's final approach.....all of a sudden the engines began to roar and the plane began to climb "I'm sure there is nothing much to be alarmed about and I am sure the Captain will give us an update as soon as he can" came the announcement. I smiled and tried to look calm as my stomach did somersaults and there were a few gasps of panic from behind us. The Captain came on to say that Control had asked them to abort the landing and we had to circle and attempt to land again. Second time around we landed with no problems much to eveyone's relief. Just after we landed the Captain said that he had just been told the reason for the aborted landing....go on take a guess........give you a clue......we are talking Goa.........have you guessed yet?........could only be one of two things well it wasn't cows on the runway...... but yes a dog was running across the runway....only in Goa lol. We made it through customs fairly quickly and collected our case's. As we made our way outside we could see 100 pairs of eyes staring at us from behind the barrier. Like Hyena's waiting to pounce on the fresh meat the porters gathered expectantly eyeing up their prey. I had warned my Mum so she just stayed closely behind us, then off to the left our friend Jaan with a beaming smile and a wave, he quickly brought his car round to the front and we loaded the car up despite the best attempts of the Hyena's I mean porters;-) to pick up a case every 5 steps. So onto the journey South past the industrial site and the slums, I pointed them out to my Mum and she was just open mouthed staring out of the window. We then took a right and on to the coastal road, driving through the villages with all the colours and sights.........the cows wandering down the road, the ladies carrying loads of wood on their heads, the locals dressed in their Sunday bests driving scooters as they to and from Mass at the churches in Benaulim and Varca, the blue wheels whirring round as the street vendors process and juice the cane. The small fish markets on the corners, the men sitting reading their papers over a cup of tea in the small local corner cafe's and bars. Driving past the rice fields which are so picturesque at this time of year with the lone Heron standing in the corner of the field, the egrets and kites flying across the sky....all the time my Mum just staring open mouthed out of the window. We enter Cavelossim with the gleaming white church at the cross-roads, round the next corner we came to the Palm Grove and our home for the next two weeks. Laurence the owner came out to meet us with a big beaming smile and it was hugs all round like the old friends that we are. I introduced my Mum who was still very subdued, we checked in to our two rooms, showered and then headed off to the beach. We stopped at the first shack we came to and had lunch before relaxing on sunbeds for the rest of the afternoon, well except me who had to go for a long walk along the shore. None of us could believe we were actually there, we just stared up the gorgeous beach, the white sands, the palm tree's and the sparkling blue sea. We then had our first cocktails and watched the sun go down....my Mums first Goan Sunset.......just after the sunset I asked my Mum the question I had been wondering since we arrived...."so Mum are you in shock or in awe".........."just in awe came the reply I can't believe I am actually here and not watching TV and I am just soaking in all the sights, colours, sounds and smell" yes Mum was already starting to fall for Goa. That evening we went to the Riverview and sat on the pontoon, my Mum just looked around her and squealed with delight just like a schoolchild her face so excited. Unbelievably the second song the band played was "Mum and Dad's song" one that my Dad used to sing all the time (my Dad played guitar and had a great voice) "Talk about things like a walk in the park, things like a kiss in the dark, talk about the things we used to do........" they sang, I had tears in my eyes and I looked across at Mum not knowing how she would be and I can honestly say that for the first time since Dad died I could see a real genuine spark in her eyes and a smile that just oozed happiness.........

Great report had to wipe a tear before i could write this. look forward to the rest of your report.Gel
Sorry Anita I meant to say the food at The Palm Grove is excellant, in fact they do an awful lot of delivery business to the management and staff of a few of the local hotels and when we were there they did the outside catering when the Minister for Goa was in Cavelossim for the day.
A link to newly submitted hotel epic(sorry, review )
I was on the same flight. I'm sure we were only a few feet from the ground. Once the pilot pulled up, it seemed to go eerily silent, and then the engines roared into life. The drunk on the plane who had been a pain since take off, in his half conscious state, thought it was the reverse thrust for braking after landing, and proceeded to get up and get his hand luggage. You've never heard cabin crew shout so loudly!!!!
I remember him he just stood up and swayed, he was sitting a few rows in fornt of us to the left You must have been in Mobor at the same time as us as well then, shame we didn't meet up
