sounds a great location near my 2 fave restaurants. Soumyens and Over the Flames. Save me a fortune in taxis
thanks
hullsmoggy, why dont you have a look in google earth,i put it in and found it sorry i cant put a link up..
We have had to pay £56 each with TC for AC. We would have gone for the rooms without but there were not enough left. Does any one know if these rooms are larger than the standard ones, not much written about this hotel so i will do a report when I get back
what a rip off we paid locally for AC and paid about £50 for the pair of us for 2 weeks, the room was large and had a fridge too.
There are three of us in one room and we had to pay £168 for the AC in that one room
Debgreg, Somy is not as far down as the Osbourne. It is almost opposite the road where the Why Not bar/restaurant is. Easy to find, you won't have a problem. Nice little hotel.
Staying here myself on 15th December for two weeks so will do a report too.
someone on TA has just said it was dire when he stayed there in April said location was awful, 25mins to the beach, others had said it was an ok hotel in a good location:que
The Somy is central for getting to Candolim and Baga. If you cross the road and walk down the road where the "why not" is and follow the road around to the Bar that I think is called the Crazy Horse Bar/restaurant there is an alleyway to the left next to hotel (can't remember the name) that takes you down to the beach - its not too far but I would agree its not a 5 minute walk. I found the hotel fine, clean and large rooms, good a/c if you have it and a nice pool. It is a 2 star and although fairly basic I have certainly been in worse. (Santa Monica and the Osbourne spring to mind)Beds were fairly comfy too. On the whole it was a value for money hotel. Only criticism I would have would be that the breakfast service was slow and not too organised. I guess you will have to try it and make your own mind up but to be honest it wasn't too bad when we stayed there last year. I would have no hesitation in staying there again.
Thanx Fizzy as long as the beds are clean that is the main thing, not bothered about the food as there are lots of places to eat and to be honest i would rather be able to have a drink near the hotel and wander home at night than be close to the beach. Stayed in the MD last year and I know the grounds are lovely but our room was really basic and I hated getiing taxis everywhere. The bathroom was toilet seat hanging off and the put you up bed they brought for my youngest , well put it this way it took four attempts before there was one clean enough to consider. That is my only concern as people rave about the MD but we found that to be basic and the food was awful, don't get me wrong it was fine but can we handle worse than that , that is my worry I know my son can't,teenagers
Do the rooms here have a safe? How much do they charge?
The rooms don't have a safe, but there are safety deposit boxes at reception. Can't remember how much they charged, but don't think it was too much.
Are they secure? Or am i better off stashing my cash?!
The security boxes seemsed very secure to me, you needed 2 keys to unlock them. You keep one and reception has the other. Much safer than trying to hide your money!
Cheers Polly!
I've posted on here somewhere how much we paid for the airc*n, think it was about £50 for the 2 weeks. No option on taking it or not, we had to have it and pay up before they would give us the key to the room. I'm sure you will enjoy it at the Somy it's nice and central for everything. Bus stop either way outside too.
Great thanks! Any good restaurants or bars nearby?
How often do they change the bedding & towels?
Not sure, but I think it was every other day. Fizz
If i am correct then the somy is right in the centre of the rush hour traffic near that Thomascook building.
My OH said last night that he was worried about the noise, as most of the time we spend the morning/afternoon out at the beach or other places, then head back to the hotel about 4pm for a chill out at the pool. Would we hear the constant horns?
We stayed at the riverside last year, and found this to be very quiet.
