Hi Michelle
I can tell you that you can get drinks down at the beach using your AI wristband but you don't get food, you have to go back in to the hotel for that.
No point in saying I hope you enjoy your holiday as I know you will
Graham
Nice to hear from you
I am just interested with the lollys i ate loads of last year, sure thats what gave me pharaohs revenge but who cares it was worth it:)
Do you get snacks from the poolside near reception?
Its strange asking you when i have been going for years, but i always went B & B, so this is new to me
Still think i might go to the Oonas, i like to see my mates that work there, providing Latoyah isnt on his holidays!!!

Ps, Graham...........my Mum, friend and daughter are with me and hubby this year, their first time, i hope they like it, despite the 130 degree june weather
Did they give you AI for B&B price ? It sounds too good to be true, would others have got it for that price if they had booked the same week or is it because you have been there about a dozen times ?
Doe
No i booked the holiday as soon as i came off the other(a year ago) as usual on a B & B basis and paid just a little over £500, that included the £28 pp for the upgrade to the huge rooms.
I always went b & b as you are aware by now.
Then just before christmas we had a letter from thomson/portland saying that the hotel (SBR and SC) are forefeiting B & B now and are only doing A1.
I was worried we were going to be charged more, but on the letter it stated that the price would be the same
For travellers who just book the holiday as normal, and didnt book like we did a year ago, they would have to pay around £900-£1100 for two weeks. But if they had booked before the hotel changed, they would automatically receive the free upgrade.
Another factor was my daughter wasnt even coming on our holiday, she was going to cyprus with her b/f, but after a year they broke up, so my daughter is coming with us, i asked thomson how much it was going to be to stay in our huge room and it was basically the same price as us, so she didnt have to pay any extra, so was very lucky.
At the end of the day, sometimes it pays to pay earlier for holidays, so if there are any changes, you come off better.

There is an a la carte restaurant which is all inclusive, which you book the day before, but we didnt think too much of it.
Plenty of bars around, which are all inclusive. There is a range of all inclusive cocktails too, which is good.
Has anyone recently come back from the Sonesta Club - could do with an update on food, wrist bands, etc as each season it changes slightly
The Sonesta Club is across the dual carriageway from the Sonesta beach resort and takes about 10 to 15 minutes to walk there. It is a great hotel and yes, you still have to wear the bands. Light blue for adults and dark blue for youngsters. They also dole out water tokens which you can trade in at the restaurant to get the much needed bottles of water. This was my first time there and I will post a full report in the relevant section.
There was plenty of food and it catered for every taste, you would be hard pushed not to find anything at all to eat..but it was much of a muchness really..pretty much the same every day. I didn't eat much and neither did most of our party of 22 as most of us had a dose of pharoahs revenge..and some of us are still suffering even though we are back at home! There is also a BBQ every night at one of the pool bars and most of our party congregated there. During the day, we were out scuba diving. They did provide lunchboxes..but these were the same every day and in the heat...well I wouldn't recommend eating them to anybody...all distinctly dodgy.
The service is good but I think I would only rate the food at about 6 or 7 out of 10. That said, the desserts were always superbly presented, in fact most of the stuff was beautifully presented..but as is the usal case with AI..the leftovers from the night before are generally chucked in mayonnaise and become a salad offering for the next day. ( runner beans in mayonnaise with carrot and aubergine... )
Just got back from Sonesta beach - trips, food, weather i will answer, some you might not want to know!

We WANT to know this hotel is still numero uno on our shortlist for Feb/March so give us all the detail you can
please
Pretty please
am I creeping too much
I will be writing a huge write up, but still cooking and washing, SBR still beautiful, but there has been quite a lot of changes i need to inform you all about, eg, visas, etc. I am also writing to thomson and the baggage rip off, and the fact my mum collapsed in luxor! I was the only one to bring her back due to the fact of medical experience. Mum ok now. All will be in my write up shortly.
Heres my write up...........
For anyone who has stayed in the Sonesta Club - which are the best room numbers (2 adults 2 children), and does anyone know their email address???
reservations@sonestasharm.com This is from their website which is
I have got 2 rooms, adjoining with Pool views, what I want to know is are these rooms likely to be the larger rooms?? Or do I need to upgrade. If I do upgrade rooms do I do this at the resort at check in? or contact Thompson/Portland and arrange through them.
Any help is much appreciated.
Phil
To get the biggest and best rooms you need to upgrade £2pppn especially if you have kids, they will then have a room to themselves in the little room at the bottom of the steps leading from the living room, they will be bunk beds.
does anyone have a map of the sonesta beach resort - I've looked on the website but couldn't see one. We have not upgraded to a double double room but I am thinking about it (after reading reviews )but I was just wondering where they are in relation to reception. I will be going diving most days so have to be in reception for pickup so would rather have a room near reception cos every 5 mins extra sleep is always precious on holiday
Daisy
All the biggest and best rooms imo are about a 6 mins walk from reception, they are the double double rooms. I have been going to this hotel for years.
Smaller rooms are available next to reception, they have everything you need, but are a nightmare in summer as the air-conditioning is virtually like a radiator hooked onto the wall, and it does not at all cool the room down in the hot months. If going in the winter rooms, well it will not matter as much. From the beach, its a minute. You will need to email the hotel as we do to request a room next to reception.
Any other queries please let me know

I will do a write up when i can, but there has been some very good changes since i last visited June 2008.
A fantastic time to go, and will possibly never visit in the summer again.
Cannot wait to go again next year for the 7th time.
