i dont think the dates are up and running yet, so proberly best to email them with your chosen dates. Ask for the family rooms with a supplement for the biggest.

Have you tried pricing on the Thomson site as well as the Portland site ?Sometimes the main Thomson site brings up extra room options. It isn't always more expensive than Portland and on occassions it is sometimes cheaper.

thanks for the Pm michelle . I will be definately be ringing thompson tomorrow ..

Chris . Im sure I must of yesterday as I spent all day on here checking prices for various hotels but to be honest I cant remember :duh . Sonesta is still my cheapest option if I cant do HSB within my budget and I must stick to it the best I can.

Hi Lyn

It was just that when I was checking the Sonesta (I must have checked prices on half the hotels in Sharm at some point  ) You seemed to be able to get the larger room for quite a small extra supplement, but at the time I could only find them on the main Thomson site not the Portland one, although I guess that may have changed now with all the mergers and modifications.

Yes the supplement is quite a small one chris . Only about £70 for the 2 rooms we need . The problem is the cheaper day is Friday 10th (good friday ) from Gatwick and the larger rooms are not available on that date . I can get them on the 12th but more expensive that day and it would bring me back to £3000 and then I may as well go where I originally wanted :( . Michelle has very kindly checked with thomson for me today and there could be a deal to be done if Im lucky so will keep you posted.

Fingers crossed for you. It's so annoying when a difference of a couple of days puts you into a different price bracket, as when you are booking 5 or 6 people that runs into 100's. It does look like a nice hotel, I like the arabic (if thats what it is  ) style of the buildings, makes a change from the more generic look of the Hiltons and Marriotts.

Chris are you a taurean by any chance? its so funny what you have typed :rofl

You wont get the joke, but when you wrote

makes a change from the more generic look of the Hiltons and Marriotts

you asked lyn what i wrote in an pm to her :cheers

Yes they are arabic style rooms and cool, well the big rooms are because the walls are white and very thick. The Marriotts, hiltons, JV complexes are just ordinary style rooms so you could be in the middle of spain for example. That is why we love going there, I feel like i am in the desert :sun2

Im more than happy with the room styling :tup although I have become very used to our hilton rooms in egypt. As long as they are clean we only sleep and spend a couple of hours in them before dinner .

Have rang Elizabeths number a couple of times this morning but no answer as yet . My only reservation I still have is the same one I always have which is whether there will be other english teenagers there for mine :think .

If I go for it it,working within my budget (not quite ) looks like it will have to be the normal family rooms . Should I make a request for certain numbers Michelle or a particular area or are all family rooms the ones near the reception.

Sorry Im being such a pain in the bum .

Hi Lyn

The reservations you have reguarding the English and other nationalities is important, but one i cannot really answer, nor you until you arrive there. If you are having the transfer on the coach from the airport, you will be with English people on that, but obviously they will be going to different hotels i'm sure.

There are a lot of English, Russians, Germans, Italians etc who go to Egypt, its possibly one of the shortest trips they make across the sea to get here as its only a few hours travel time. That said though, we have been several times as you know, and seen English people and teens. In fact last year when we went in July and August we met up with teens and was drinking with them on top of the Oonas dive bar next to the hotel.

Its a difficult call really, you wont know until you get there. But, because it is Easter when you want to fly, you maybe lucky and have more English there, plus its the cooler months, and a lot of English go there in the winter time for example.

It really depends how important it is for the kids to meet people, you would meet more by the pools, you get loads of kids by the pool near reception, but there are 6-7 pools to choose from.

Not all lowered rooms are near reception, some are in the 400s for example and are on the first floor, where as some are on the ground floor. If you want a nice room (family) room, email them about 2 weeks before departure. I always do, for my room 1105.

If you cannot get through to Elizabeth, just ring Thomson direct on 0871-231-4691, anyone can help.

Good luck.

Michelle x

ps, all trips you go on with Thomson via the hotel will have kids and adults, so you will know who is at your hotel.

Forgot to say lyn, when ringing Thomson up, when you get their price, ring Portland up and tell them what price Thomson have given you, they will knock theirs down also. i always do this on all my holidays, they make enough commission as it is :D (I love bartering) :)

To be honest Lyn, i go any time, i am not bothered by children, we are all there for a purpose to have fun, its nice watching the kids have fun in the sea. I am not one of these people who doesnt want to hear or see children ;) whilst on vacation. If i wanted that, i would go to a remote area for example. I have been in April and you do tend to get more teens/younger children there as it isnt quite as hot as the summer months.

I would happily advise you to get a price from your local shop, and thomson online, then portland for the same hotel etc. Also say if you rang back today whilst they are still working, what discounts are you offering? They get money for selling us a package :D then barter one off against the other, they will soon jump to your attention, a few quid off, is more spending money :pele

Well Ive taken the plunge and booked it folks :fly

Friday 10th april which I hope is good friday :think for £2740 for 5 of us in 2 family rooms ( 4 adults and 1 child)from portland which isnt bad for Easter weekend and its proximity to Naama Bay . Good flight times too . Could of done 10 days but stood firm on my decision to go with what I could afford not what Id like . Still more than i wanted to pay but Im happy and may email sonesta nearer the time to see if they can upgrade me to those double family rooms at a small fee

Right on to summer 2009 now

WOW. That was quick work Lyn. Sounds like a good deal, and the hotel has got a brilliant location. I'm sure you'll have a great time. :sun2

At least you stuck to your 7 day, rather than 10 day wish. This thread is called Sonesta Club though, are we in the wrong thread ? :que
I guess as it's a new hotel for you as well a week is safer, although I think it will be fine. The bulidings look a bit like the Crowne Plaza where I have stayed, and that was an attractive hotel as well. But only B&B so no good for you.
