Anybody know where I can find a (strong) travel cot for a disabled/special needs child (9 years old). Size wise he can sleep in a normal cot as he sleeps curled up, the problem is that he can also rock it and not only does this amuse him and keep him awake but im worried one day he will push it over, I cant find anybody dealing with specialist travel cots but I cant be the only one out there with this problem, has anyone else ever seen one?
Lisa.
Lisa, as you don't give a lot of detail of the problems of this particular youngster, might a bed rail be suitable, perhaps in a telescopic form to cover all lengths of bed? Apologies if I've not read the situation correctly but can understand why you need specialist help with this.
Thank you for your reply (sorry I havent been able to get online for a while) unfortunately a bed rail would not be suitable, not only is a cot a compfort for him (wont go to sleep in a bed at all) but for saying he is disabled he is extremely active and can crawl very fast, he has an obsession with doors and would either be up and playing with the door or out of the apartment before I even heard him, he needs high sides in order to stop him getting out and something strong and preferably heavy to stop him from being able to move it.
Would Mencap have a list of specialist suppliers for special needs Lisa? When we get the National Autistic Society mag there are often adverts for things like car harnesses and such like.
Mencap is one place I never thought of (Don't know why its quite obvious when you think about it) Thanks ever so much, I'll cantact them.
Had any luck yet Lisa?
nope, nothing yet, have searched high and low and asked everyone I can think of, I cant believe Im the only one who has a need for this!
HERE is a supplier of travel cots. Perhaps their products may not meet your lad's specific needs, but it may be worth making enquiries via the 'Contact Us' link to see if they can give you more specialised advice, or perhaps even refer you to an appropriate manufacturer who could make something to order.

Hi Lisa, I havce just come across this site and whilst searching for a travel cot for my 7 year old son. My situation appears to be identical to yours, I wa wondering if you manged to find something suitable ?? I can't believe that there is nothing on the market out there...... I have previously found something close to what we need but it was £1800.00 !!!!.
Lucy, have sent you a pm with everything I know so far
Hi, I have the same problem with my son Lisa, He is only 2 but is special needs and can pull himself out of a 'normal' travel cot, would you be able to message me with the company that you have got your special travel cot from???? i would really appreciate it! thanks vicki
Just one thought though, it's no good for my son but a friend of mine takes the Genie care safe sides http://www.geniecare.com/safesides.html away with them, not sure if it would be any good to you.
Lisa
