Only 20 days to go now
My husband, myself & 2 daughters heading for St.Georges on June 11th. Am really worried about hotel, read on another site that hotel is next to a water treatment plant that is noisy & smelly! any imfo on same? Also the manmade beach at st.Georges-must we still get the bus to go to it or is it by the hotel?Sorry i have lots of questions but to go here is a dream come true & i'm worried that it is going to be disasterous! we have snorkelled before but never tried diving and really want to do it- but our travell company are quoting us a oprice of 236 euros each! way beyond our budget! i thought we would get a dive for about 50 euros each. my girls are 13 & 9 yrs and i feel that 236 euros each is too much! would be really grateful if you answer some of my queries as nails are bitten dowm yo nothing at this stage! anyone else can answer - PLEASE Help!
We are off to St George in July, and like you have read quite a bit about the hotel! A recent review said that the water plant wasn't that noticeable, but you could try and email the hotel and request a pool view as I have. The new St george beach is still reached by bus but have read it is not as good as the sister hotels beach, but I think you are still allowed to use this one though have to use a taxi to get there. Regarding the diving, am sure you could shop around whilst there - try doing a search on this forum re prices. Am sure you will have a great time!!
Regards
Annie
Thanks Annie-I'm not too concerned about the noise, it would be the smell that i'd be worried about! Cos i reckon after a few drinks-i won't here anything! We are due back on the 25th of june so i'll do my best to post what i think of the place. Hopefully it will be all good!
we fly out to here on the 7th June to the St George, my fist time to sharm, my main reason for going is to get my head under water (yes I am a scuba diver), I too was shocked at the cost for a days diving when compared to what I was paying for diving in Turkey, but you have to remember that this is supply and demand and seeing that the Red Sea is the diving Mecca so I can understand why it's a little on the high side, but I have been assured that the place is one of the best in the world. I did contact the hotel chain and ask about the diving company that operate from the old beach they put me in contact and I can only say that there prices are lower than that of a place like the Red Sea College, one thing that crossed my mind was standards but I have checked the PADI site and they are registered on there, if you want there contract details PM me

Ive just had a real good price for next Sept at this hotel
got back from there two days ago, I will post a review in due course, out of 10 i would give the hotel 7 to 8, overall the place is not bad but the kids club and entertanment are not a patch on anything we have ahad in Turkey, overall i liked the hotel and the food.
But does this complex have a gym. I know I will be on holiday, but if there is a gym with a treadmill, and if I am up and about early enough before breakfast, I like to have a run. No nasty comments please.
why would anyone be nasty about that!! It has got a gym and despite what reviews you may read, it is a nice hotel, the people we spoke to that were staying there on the beach all spoke highly of the resort, the only problem with it was the English holidaymakers who decided it would be fun to punch a barman there, which i think is disgusting, the English aslo started a fight (it is alledged) at the Tavern on the 1st, yep 1st England match, the only thing to spoil a holiday in any country always has to be English (i am embarressed to be British, no wonder alot of foreigners think we are all rough and chavscum) Another barman, who was dead sweet also got abused on the beach as did the waiters, their crime, being to busy to serve them straightaway. Also another english guy nearly started a riot on the beach, i could see his point, but to threaten violence is not the answer. Egyptian people must think we are losers, and you know what, they are the nicest race i have ever met!! No wonder our reputation abroad stinks.....
Thanks for answering my query. But how awful about English causing trouble, it is, as you say rather embarrassing. I hope we don't experience anything like that when we go. Hope it didn't spoil your holiday though. (I am Dawntra from my work station)
we are due to fly out to sham on 14th sept to st george hotel after our travel agent went bust we do not wont any more problems on our hols so could anyone tell me which rooms are furtherest away from the water plant so i can e mail the hotel many thanks
Ron
mind you after thinking about it the animation team aren`t that good so they might send you to sleep...
hi ronprowse, dont know where you got your info from but afraid the st. george doesnt have a disco of any sorts, the only entertainment you will find is the "entertainment team" and some light entertainment of an evening, and the music around the pool will either put you to sleep, or make you want to drown yourself.
went on 9th july we were booked into st george, when we got to the airport we were told it was full and had been upgraded to the kiroseiz, that did have a disco down stairs,it was a great hotel, came back last sat glad it wasnt this week as the flight has been delayed by 25 hours, would go back again to both hotels
Personally i liked the hotel but there not that much for the kids there except the pool, I went for the diving so i only spent 8 out of 14 days sitting by the pool but i was so bored.....
Will return to Egypt in November, going diving so will only need B+B, but as for next year its back to Turkey as it suits the wife (shopping etc) and there loads more for the kids to do.

no didnt see kids disco are girls were older teenagers,we did miss some of the entertainment because it was out the front of the hotel,we watched the animation teams show out there thurs night it was good we went into namma bay for a bit of shopping but when youve been to turkey it just isnt the same. im going to mamaris for a week 11th sept so ive had the best of both this year. i really liked egypt thought the hotel staff were really nice and not in your face like some of the turks, maybe ive been to mamaris to many times now and i dont see it as a holiday maybe i should try a different resort
Sorry if this seems a silly question, but does this hotel have an iron in the room?
I usually take my own, but would like to leave it at home if there is one available at the hotel.
Thanks
Lorraine
Returned last Thursday from the St George and there were no irons in the room or kettles which I really missed for my morning cuppa!!
Outside the hotel, what is there in the way of shops or the beach (which according to Airtours is 500m away)???? What other hotels are nearby??
