Hi have you had a look at the Riu in Negril - Riu Tropical Bay, we are going there in June after much research. It gets great reviews and has a fantastic calm sea and long strech of beach looks lovely. Also they have upgraded half the hotel into junior suites as it is becoming a palace next year so you could be lucky enough to get one of the suites without the extra price tag. Seems to be close to lots of bars/restaurants as well.
I've never stayed at the Trelawny, but I've been passed it a few times going to/from Ocho Rios. From memory, the Trelawny is in Falmouth and is quite remote. There isn't much around the hotel. It's not too far from Ocho Rios, but way too far for walking. Personally, if you wanted to stay on that side of Jamaica, I'd head for Ocho Rios. Riu hotels are pretty good and rated at a higher standard than the Trelawny.

However we have now decided to book 2 wks in Fuerteventura as we have been before. It was all to do with already having a Thomson holiday booked which we wanted to change so that was why I was looking at Jamaica.Hopefully DH and I will be able to go to the Caribbean when we are child free!!I think Ocho Rios does look very nice.
I've been lucky enough to stay at both Starfish Trelawny and Ochos Rios.
Both were excellent holidays, but both entirely different.
Starfish is family orientated and a lot smaller. The beach at Starfish is fabulous.
Riu Ochos Rios is a huge complex and more than worth the 4* given by Thomson.
I won't go on, as I see you've made your decision, but should anyone want more info on these hotels, let me know
