By creating this ever increasing backlog, they have just given agents a 'licence to print money' and charge whatever they want.

I read on another site about a guy who is travelling very soon, has been let down by an agent who had his passport and application for 2 weeks before telling him that they couldn't get his visa on time.
He was quoted £125 EACH by another agent to get him an urgent visa.

Not sure if this includes the £30 visa fee or not.
As Sandyboy says, if they'd got things in place BEFORE the announcements about ceasing postal applications, there wouldn't have been so many people going to the early surgeries, resulting in lots of people being turned away, resulting in even MORE people queing even earlier for the next surgery or at the HCI/CGI - and so on and so on.
This whole visa debacle has been created by the Indian authorities - who seem unconcerned about the result of their actions.
