I have just posted a few pictures taken yesterday afternoon in Rua 5 de Outubro and Rua Candido dos Reis in old town Albufeira.

These are colloquially known as 'tunnel street' and 'bar street' respectively.

You will be pleased to know that works down in the old town are now more or less complete. There is however plenty still going on elsewhere, not least along the N395 between Ferreiras and Albufeira.

Some pictures I took this morning can be seen at http://thomasallen.spaces.live.com as usual.

Some good news - the pier has re-opened. Bad news is that a large hole is now being dug in the old town square in front of the Soares off-licence. More pictures at the weekend.

I have some recent pictures of some of the projects around Albufeira on my webspace http://thomasallen.spaces.live.com

As most of the streetworks are now finished this will be the last update in this format.

However there are many other construction projects in the area, many with the capacity to spoil your holiday.

I will do my best to keep you up to date with those. Just bookmark my webpages and check back every week or so!

There is still some work along the Rua 5 de Outubro, the road that leads to the tunnel, but it's right at the far end so not on most people's itineraries.

Those pictures and more can now be seen at http://thomasallen.spaces.live.com

I have added a few pictures taken yesterday from the assorted construction works around Albufeira at the usual place http://thomasallen.spaces.live.com

Hi Cubby, are you back yet ?, if so can you update me on roadworks on the EN 395 at Ferreiras as we are coming out in 4 weeks and if still work in progress would want to avoid it. :cheers

The works at the Albufeira end of the N395 are ongoing. The road is closed northbound between the Albufeira main road Av.dos Descobrimentos and the Health Centre. Traffic is diverted up the hill, round past LIDL and back down again.

I will be taking some pictures over this weekend.

Next week I will be in Ferreiras itself and will see what is going on there.

On a more general note, I will be out and about in Albufeira this weekend and should be able to post some picture updates on Monday.

Hi again Cubby, have you been out and about in Ferreiras yet ?

Yes, sorry, I was in Ferrieras last Thursday. I couldn't remember where I was to answer!

For the benefit of all.

The road re-surfacing work in Ferrieras itself is completed except for one or two side streets. The roundabout is being tarted up, but there is no effect on traffic.

You will however wish to avoid the N395 if travelling to or from Albufeira as there is still a lot of work going on, with the road partially closed at the Albufeira end. There are traffic jams now as the holiday season picks up. I took some pictures yesterday while waiting for the bus and I should have these on my webspace some time tomorrow, together with a collection of other stuff I have to sort out.

I recommend you head along the N125 towards Fontainhas and take the road into Albufeira through Brejos and Montechoro or the Vale da Pedras if you want to avoid the traffic and dust. Also, two of the largest surface car parks in Abufeira centre are now closed (for the building of multi-storey car parks where you will have to pay!) so parking is now at a premium. There is free parking up and around the bus station, from where the council has laid on a free mini-bus to take you into town and bring you back. This seems to run every half hour until quite late (it was there at 830pm last night) but in true Albufeira council form there is absolutely no signage or publicity.

And I can add that all the streetworks, drain and sewer projects in the old town are now complete. It's now only the several other assorted construction projects you will have to put up with.

I hope that answers the questions.

Hello cubsur, I see you have not updated this site for a long time, now all the work is done does this mean the end of your pictures. If so it has been very good to see how things have gone over in the Algarve over the last year or so.

Well I spent several weeks away from Albufeira and the Algarve, but there wasn't much happening anyway. All the work down in the old town is finished and work on several of the other projects eg the new car parks was suspended. The biggest project under way at the moment is the conversion of the N395 Ferrieras road to a dual-carriageway.

Now I am back and organised it's on my agenda to get out and about over the next few days and get some updated photos.

This will be my last post under this topic heading. The streetworks in the old town of Albufeira are finished. We now await the first serious test of the new drains, when the September monsoons arrive.

There is plenty going on elsewhere, especially along the N395 road between Albufeira and Ferreiras.

I will continue to update my blog every couple of weeks with some new pictures.

It's still at http://thomasallen.spaces.live.com

Of course I will do my best to respond to specific questions about what is being dug up and where the enxt new hotels are being built but I cannot be everywhere!
