Just to let you know that I have taken advantage of the good weather to wheel around town and take some pictures. Mostly of the assorted civic works but of general interest for those of you not here.

Yesterday the first components for the escalator were delivered and craned into site at the Largo 25 de Abril. And they are repairing the surface of the old town square again!
It all looks to be going to schedule - im just wondering how long it will work for inthe heat- oh well i will find out when i get there in August if its still working!!

The escalator works are well under way and they were even working on a Sunday. No idea of finish date though.
Work has started on restoring the road across the top of the escalator works (Sacadura Cabral) which will re-open the normal access to the multi-storey car park and enable the tourist train to resume its normal route.
Also, the new roads in the neighbourhood of Inatel and the Barrio dos Pescadores are open. The 'old' road, Rua Amirante Gago Coutinho has, well, gone! It has been completely ripped up and is currently impassable to pedestrians as well as vehicles.
This is the road that runs down from the roundabout past the 'Lemon Tree' to Inatel. It is to be reconfigured as a pedestrian walk.
At the other end of the beach, work has re-started on the lift/elevator up by Rocamar.

The escalator from Largo 25 de Abril up to the top was due to be opened yesterday, Thursday 20th. As I am not there others may report whether it really was!
Does it replace the steps that used to go down to the Beach that we would of used if walking past the telephone office and post office road to get to the beach from the Brisa Sol?
The escalator is on the fishmans beach & replaces the long trek up the steps, the mayor of Albufeira was supposed to offically open it last Thursday the 20th March but whether it went ahead we dont know as our scout & guide Cubsur is enjoying himself in the UK Jayjan.
Thats where I thought it was
At least if I get too drunk in the old town this year I wont have to worry about climbing the steps
Posted some new pictures today and as you will see the escalators are still working!
I have added some pictures taken on Monday and Tuesday - same place as before.
weve just come back from albufeira and went down the escalators thank god they were working the workman are getting on with the streetworks but it nothing to bad they are laying slabs near the bottom of the escalator but there not in the way

I have included some pictures of the finished areas in response to several queries.
Excellent photos as usual Cubsor.... that Plaza is some project, keep them coming many thanks
Hello cubsur, I don't like to block this link up, but have they finished the works in Albufiera? there has not been any pictures for a while. I have only got a few weeks till we go to Lagos but we are planning a trip to Albufiera to have a go on the new moving stairs, plus I bet it must be good not to have those smelly old toilets at the bottom of the stairs any more?
Our understanding is that any intrusive work (ie that might upset the tourists) will be suspended until 1st October but that won't stop the cranes etc on the big hotel developments.
Look out for an update in about 10 days time.
I have uploaded some pictures taken this weekend at
Hello cubsur, some nice pics of your tour. Seeing those ones of Cascais reminds me of our holiday there a few years ago, nice but cool at night. Also its a pity that old building with all its nice tiles (Azulejo) has been left to fall to bits, will there be any more on the square in Albufeira ? and what are the wooden boxes in the square going to be used for, are they a new cafe?
The new square Largo 25 de Abril was supposed to have benches and trees etc but nothing seems to be happening about that. I guess that, as well as the landscaping around the escalators, will have to wait until the winter.

including a lot of graffiti, the subject of conversation in another place.
I have just uploaded 70 or so pictures, not just of the various civic works, building developments etc but including some nice ones as well.
