I have uploaded a few pictures taken around town yesterday morning. As there isn't a lot to see, I also uploaded some taken in Vila Real, Tavira and sunset in Faro taken last Thursday.

Just uploaded a few pictures taken around town this morning. Spot the differences between these and those I took a fortnight ago and you don't get a prize. Suffice it say that progress in most areas seems glacial.

Cubsur,

Really enjoy your updates. I went to Albufeira Old Town in June '06 when the square was still under construction. Had a great week other than the weather. Its interesting to see your photos to see how the place is constantly changing. Do you think they'll ever finish work in the old town!? I fancy returning soon but would like to see the finished product!

Will they ever finish? Some are beginning to doubt it! I heard the other day that some of the outstanding sewer/drain work in the town has been put off until October 2008, so it will be well into 2009 methinks.

The other day the drilling machine on top of the cliff took a tumble. Unfortunately, I didn't know until the day after they hauled it back up the cliff. That delayed work a bit but both the lift and the moving stairway are supposed to be ready for the 2008 holiday season ie June 2008.

I will be off-line for a few days now. Back next week and i will take a few more pictures on the weekend of 22/23 December as a progress (or lack of!) report.

Been told they are planning to pedestrianize the street overlooking the old town down as far as the Inatel.A new replacement route is under construction at moment.
Reply
Correct - the road from the roundabout past the Lemon Tree and down to Inatel will be closed to most traffic. The new road to bypass that section is nearly finished. I will be taking some pictures around there tomorrow and updating the website on Monday.

We are told that buses and the tourist train may still continue to use that section as will residents and deliveries be allowed, but everyone else will be directed to the new road.

Have to agree with you Wizard he is a star, just a pity he don't live in Lagos as that's were we are going this summer, but it is nice to see slow things are going in Albufeira it has not moved on much since we were there last summer.

I shall probably be visiting Lagos sometime soon so I will have camera in hand!

There's no shortage of construction going on in Lagos, unfortunately. The week before Christmas the crane count was thirteen on the town side and seven behind the Marina, though the construction behind the Marina is far more noticeable than the bits and pieces going on in town.If you'd be so kind,Cubsur, please put a health warning on your Lagos post as the sight of so much concrete appearing where it has no right to be, tends to make me a bit angry

O no, we are staying in a hotel that faces the Marina and have paid extra for a Marine view as we didn't want to look at the bus station :cry

Dave,
I don't want to hi-jack the Albufeira roadworks thread, but if,as I suspect, you'll be at the Marina Rio, you've little to worry about.Either p.m. me or start a new thread if you want more info.

Going back to the Lagos situation, I was over with some friends last week and had a brief chance to take a couple of pictures. I don't know if these are the places referred to and I know there is more work taking place a bit further down the road towards Meia Praia. The grey concrety lot are nearly finished.

I have included a few assorted pictures. Some were taken in Olhao and Tavira yesterday including some for railway enthusiasts, plus some of the area near the Orada apartments. I can't see what's going on inside the complex - too many walls and fences.

Also one of Portimao Marina and one of Praia da Rocha from the breakwater - lovely high-rise!
