Hey, hey, hey it's weigh day :!: Lost 1.5lb, if only I hadn't put 2.5lb last week I'd be well on my way to target. With only 2.2wks left till hols I'll never lose 9.5lbs. Off to dreaded gym today.

Have a good week guys.

well done joolz...

i have just fell off the food cart so to speak..
went to the canteen at work with all my usual intentions of having salad and fruit which is my daily feed.. and there it was.... bubble and squeak...such a blast from the past and it reminded me so much of monday tea time when i was a child ( bubble and squeak and cold meat!) and the weather is so horrible that i thought i would indulge in a bit..but i still have the salad next to it!!!!

I don't think that's too bad an indulgence. After all it is your lunch and not a snack.

Made myself a sauce with chestnut mushrooms, onions, chicken stock and a little flour for thickening at the weekend. Needs some fine tuning to make it a bit more tasty but all in all I was quite pleased with it.

Hello all. :wave

Lost 2lb this week. Am really pleased with that but ..... i have been unwell and my appetite has been shot so not really loosing because I have been trying. Been eating anything that I can taste really. Still, a loss is a loss so I wont complain and it is a good spring board to next week. :)

Keep it up everyone. Only a couple of weeks Joolz and you can indulge without feeling too guilty :) And what can I say, bubble & squeak. It is a blast from the past and one which I wouldnt have been able to refuse. Hope it was nice

Guys it was lovely.. and well worth falling off the food wagon for!

I had managed to lose a couple of pounds and someone today told me they thought i had lost weight as i looked slimmer so i guess it must have gone to my head a little...i too have been ill over the last week with a really heavy head cold and have barely felt like eating which is probably why i managed to lose a little..

Strangely enough, i feel more motivated now i have stopped torturing myself and tucked in to a small portion (honest) of bubble n squeak..

good luck to everyone..

welcome back kerrie....don't beat yourself up about it... have you noticed we all do it? We all have good spells and then for some reason unknown to anyone with any common sense, we fall off the food cart and that is it.. a little bit of indulgence and then we beat ourselves up about it and make ourselves feel worse..and so on, a vicious circle..

Weight is easy to pile on and sooooo hard to shift... and why do we torture ourselves? Answers on a postcard please....

hope you feel more positive soon kerrie..

good luck to everyone..

Morning all

Did any of you see a programme last week, can't remember for the life of me what it was called but it showed an English woman living in Spain who wanted to lose some weight. As an experiment all she ate for three days was Ice Cream. I think it was something like 8 - 9,000 calories per day that she was having and she said it was filling her up. We sat here saying 'how can she lose weight eating that many calories a day'. After three days she was weighed and she had lost 3lb. The experiment was just to prove that you could lose weight by eating nothing but Ice Cream and they did say that it would not be very good for you to do it for longer because obviously her body was just eating her fat store and she was not getting any goodness from the diet but she did feel full so wasn't picking at other stuff - but hey for three days I think I could suffer eating mint choc chip and any other flavour that took my fancy - couldn't you?

Regards Jackie

I didn't see it, but 8-9,000 calories worth of anything a day would fill you up. Can't understand why she lost weight mind you, perhaps it doesn't digest properly.

My favourite 'diet' programme recently has been Diet Doctors on Tuesday C5 (unfortunately last one in the series last night) - they have one doctor and one nutritionist and they advise on the effects of the diet (bad diets mainly) on the body, including things like the eyes, tongue, feet, skin complaints etc. as well as just fat. Then they show the 'victim' what they've been eating so far as 'bad' 'okay' and 'good' are etc. get them on a healthy eating and exercise plan and away they go. They also do an experiment on someone who is fit and healthy - last night an olympic runner did two weeks of binge drinking to see the effects - she had to get through 50 units over the fortnight.

I always like "You Are What You Eat" on channel 4 (tonight at 8.30). I dont like Gillian McKeith very much but she does get results. Last week the chap was a beer swilling slob (I apologise but he was :) ). He was also diabetic. It was amazing to see the results of an 8 week detox. He looked 10 years younger and had lost an amazing 3½ stone.

Having said that, mum and I looked into her diet. After listing the things that would be needed to buy at the supermarket, not only would it cost somewhere in the region of £100 (just for fruit & veg) but where do you keep it all if you only have a small kitchen. Opinion was that you really do lose pounds and not the weight kind either  It might suit some but I dont really think I could cope with some of the slop ... sorry soup ... that she suggests you serve. :) I dont do soup at the best of times.

She's irritating but does get results. I think with any 'diet' you have to prune it a bit to suit your needs. So long as you understand the basics of what your body just doesn't need you should be okay. Our problem is that the stuff we don't need seems to taste better until we attune our habits so that we don't desire it any more.

All the ones who get results have something major in common. Fresh ingredients and plenty of fruit and veg.

The programme I watched last night showed the lady her sugar consumption from tea drinking alone. It was a cereal bowl completely full of sugar and that didn't count anything she'd eaten. That was in just one week. The premise of all these programmes is to pull the blinkers off people to see what they are actually putting into their body. They also tell them how much exercise they would have to do to remain at a stable weight if they continue with their diets as they are. Last night it was 15 hours of hockey per week just to stay stable.

It can be quite amazing just how much more you are putting away then your body requires.

soup never fills me up unless i have dunked a load of bread in it first...

i have been very angelic since i had my bubble and squeak. I have had salad at lunchtimes and for the main evening meal last night i made a pasta bake and only had a tiny portion myself and no garlic bread at all... and i will see how i do today. I am usually starving on wednesdays as i barely have time to eat what with running to and from the ward for various meetings and ward round sessions... and then when i get home i go and spoil it by grabbing the first thing i see ( which is usually something like pringles!)..

Less than a month to go for me to shift a few lbs....

Hi all - just back from a fantastic week in Cyprus with lots of gorgeous food and of course some of the old vodka (with diet pepsi). Did very little but lounge on a sunbed, but to my astonishmnet have only put on 4lbs!!! then yesterday I had a really bad sickness bug so hope I have now lost some of that!

Back to watching Gillian tonight - what an irriating woman she is, but I make some of her recipes and they are really tasty, especially the moroccan chicken - mmm. Saw the bowl of sugar lady last night - it is quite shocking when you see it like that. I don't feel like eating now that I have not been feeling well which is no bad thing after all that keftedes and stifado I put away last week. oh and a whole chocolate cake which was delivered to the room for hubby's birthday and which we had to guzzle in case it went off....

I've also had a tummy upset over the last couple of days, but as my stomach seems quite swollen, can't really tell if i've lost any weight. I doubt it. Now that I don't feel like eating very much, I'm hoping that my appetite won't come back when the bug's cleared (fat chance!). Only two and a half weeks till my weekend in London. Think I'll set a new target to lose 3 pounds by then. I think it's realistic isn't it?

Trip to Marmaris was absolutely brilliant. We got back late last night. The good news is though, I only put on 1 pound after 2 weeks, woohoo. Efes was brilliant as usual and the cocktails were tremendous.
