Could someone just let me know what travel agent/holiday company you used to book your holiday to Sun Island along with the name of the airline that they use.
I need a holiday company that deals with Sri Lankan Airways as the flights times are best suited for our needs.

Tough combo.

All the agents that I have used in the past for my trips to the Maldives and who offer flights with Sri lankan don't seem to offer Sun Island. The ones I know are Kuoni, Hayes and Jarvis, Tradewinds and Thompson Worldwide but no Sun Island is coming up at all.

First Choice offer Sun island but they use there own direct flights to Male only - these are great by the way (we used them on our last trip and the flight comfort was better than our previous trip with Emirates).

If no one can find a solution you may have to compromise on your preferred carrier or investigate a DIY booking.

Thanks for the Reply, I didn't know that first choice went to Sun island and offered direct flights.
However we do have a narrow window of travel i.e. the half term holiday's in February in which Sri Lankan airlines flight times suit our needs.We are now sorted,took longer than it should have done really.
The company that we book through uses Sri Lankan airlines and I was just getting a tad impatient and was looking for another agent,but turned out so it would appear not to be the agents fault.

Holiday booked and just over 7 weeks to go for our 3rd holiday to Sun Island. I have already got the suit cases down from the loft,a tad keen may be,but I can't help it.

Just over 3 weeks to go and have heard that we are to face extra charges from our airline.Fuel surcharges/emission charges etc.Will find out more soon.
Anyone else facing the same problem,perhaps this subject is being talked about on another part of the forum.

We fly to Sun Island in a couple of weeks but our flight lands at 07:00, so i guess we will be in resort, after the seaplane transfer around 9:00. I've noticed that check in is not until 1pm!

Will we be allowed in the resturants and will we get served at the bars if we haven't been checked in yet? are we going to be left sweating in the sun while we wait for our room to be ready?

I'm sure the staff will be trying their best to look after us, but has anyone been is this situation before?

Just got back from Sun Island tonight having been travelling all day.Our flight home was via Dubia this time,what a huge and well presented Dubia airport is.
Sun Island is running at more than 100% occupancy so I was told.The island is big enough to cope and its only when having our evening meal that we noticed how many people are staying at this popular resort.

The weather is the best as you can guess,35 degrees every day with 12 hours of sunshine.
The staff are excellent and have spent much time talking with them and getting to know their life style etc.
The food is excellent and have put on a few pounds I think but could be more.
Off to bed now,but will post more info later,when i can keep my eyes open.

Hi Fiona - I think I'm still out of sync at the moment and keep waking up at 4 in the morning.

Sun island does have a business centre (Internet room) and I was tempted to do a live report as it were from Sun island,but thought I should wait until I got back.( My wife gave me that certain look at the suggestion of the idea)
Our 3rd time to Sun island and yet again a brilliant holiday.Saying good bye to the staff on the last day I find really hard to do.We got to know them really well and enjoyed finding out about their life style.

Everything was just perfect,sea plane transfer was just great,the hotel staff in all job functions were spot on.One thing we noticed was the increase in women working at the resort,which is good.Being a Muslim country women usually stay at home but change is on the way with respect to working at the resort islands so I understand.
Our waiter is married and his wife also works at Sun island which is nice for them.They live on a local island and have the choice of staying at the island over night in the married quarters or go home to their local Island.Many other employees home islands are not local so they are unable to return to their families as often as they would like to.

I highly recommend a visit to the spa.The spa setting is out of this world,Japanese style gardens with water falls and coi carp
I went for a head,neck and shoulder massage and my wife went for a facial and head massage.Its was so good I returned that afternoon for a back massage,30 minutes later I had to be peeled off the bed,as I was so relaxed.The therapists are from different parts of Asia and very beautiful.

Went snorkelling on the house reef and noticed the coral was growing back,Loads of fish of every description,then had lunch at the Italian restaurant afterwards.
Have taken lots of pictures and Video but my digital camera took and unscheduled swim in the water and now fails to work,although the pictures on the memory card are fine.
The temperature during the day was 30+ degrees and drops to about 27 degrees in the evening.We stayed in the super deluxe rooms and every morning before breakfast I would take a look at the beach and blue water a vision I will never get use to.
We also went on a Dolphin cruise one day and yes we saw about 20 of them,it was and early start and worth every minute,seeing dawn break was excellent and then dolphins was something else.
We flew out on Srilankan airlines and returned with Emirates via Dubai.Both airlines were excellent,the Emirates planes were fitted with cameras allowing you to see what the pilot sees.Flying I find a mind blowing experience and loved every minute of it.
I'm back to work on Tuesday,last day before I face the inevitable,going from Paradise to commuting to London with 1000's of grey faced individuals is something I do not look forward to.But I will reading one of my many Maldives books I have purchased and will be sporting a nice tan.

sounds like paradise What a pity about your camera. I love to get to know about local lifestyles- it can be a real eyeopener and something you remember long after the memories of the scenery have faded.

Well,its coming up to the time of year when I start to think about booking our holiday to escape the UK winter for a week or two.
The question is,do we go back to Sun Island or try a different Island?

Try another Island - Sun Island was our first Island in the Maldives and we thought spoilt us, however since then we have been to the smaller ones which are less organised and now prefer the smaller and perhaps not so luxurious but there is plenty of choice and each island has its own charms - I mean why stick to 1 when there are over 100 to visit. However I am interested in what you say about the coral, as we were there 6 months after the Tsunami so the coral on the house reef was very bleached or buried - so it would be great if you could post some photos

Sg1 - Looking at other Islands now,but the first Island we have asked our agent to book is full right up until March.
Currently waiting to see if our next choice for the dates we want is available.

Having problems finding availability for the dates that we require now.
We have the flights arranged,just a question finding an island that isn't booked.
Just thinking, perhaps we have left it to late this year.

Sg1 - We went to Sun Island for the first time in February 2005 just a couple of months after the Tsunami.There wasn't much in the way of coral, but not sure if that was result of the Tsunami or not. This year I did noticed more coral on the house reef than the previous occasions.
I will let you know after February as we are going to Sun Island again. I tried very hard to find accommodation at 4 other islands but they were all booked for the week that we wanted.
Only just managed to get a place at Sun Island. Looks like the Maldives is becoming more popular than ever.
