Jet-skis was also a problem evolving in Colva. Also those parachutes with three or four people hanging rather precariously whilst being pulled around by a speed boat. People pay 500rupees(locals that is) for the privilage.
I was speaking to one of the operators and he told me that on a good day the owner can make about 50,000 rupees. There must be a need for this sort of activity with a profit margin like that.
I wonder if all this activity is licensed at all. Probably not anyway but even if it was 'bucksheesh' would come into play.
Having said all that. All the activity with these jet skis etc is confined to the main central area on the beach at Colva and not all the way up and down the beach, so, in effect, it is not at the moment a big problem. Colva is a resort mainly for local Goans anyway on trips from Margao.
I too noticed that the jetskis on Candolim Beach were coming very close to the shore.
I know there's a place you can hire them up near Fort Aguarda and also further along the beach towards Calangute.
I think they should designate a stretch of beach as 'Jet-Ski-Free', so that those people who may want to go into the sea or just want to sit and read a book without the annoying droning of these machines can do so in safety and solitude.

The jet skis in colva were a problem but not as much as the litter the local goans left on the beach ,dirtiest beach in goa in my veiw such a shame because if you walk 5 mins either way its spotless Seams to me that its the locals that are helping goa go down the cost del sol road Having said that i will be going again Felt much safer south than north this year and taking your life in your hands just walking down the road at night time in candolin/calangute got to us this year so going to traval from mumbia to goa staying at places of interest and nice beaches then last 2 weeks south only Booked with BA for four weeks 2nd jan £412 Each 2 weeks ago same flight now is £450
All the posts by the likes of Big Neil are spot on, but unfortunatley we cant change that. The root of all the problems can be covered in one word corruption. 90% of all new builds are illegal Half of the rural population is walking miles per day to get water but nothing is done I sat this afternoon and watched two plain clothes police demand their bribe from the massage girl who I've known for years, we were about three feet away and they were blatent about it Thats why all the hawkers give you such a hard time, the bribe must be paid or they take your stock away, They then have to pay the senior police back at the station and on it goes But instead of not returning, if you can, come at other times We have a couple of weeks in Oct. before the main charters start. This year we were there at Diwall, thousands of Indians but they all stick to the usual spots like the steps at Calangute or Baga River and the end of the beach at Sinquerm The rest of the beaches are just like years ago At present We're on a 7 day last minute deal to dodge the cold and again its great. We walked from theCalangute area to the ship and back and only one sarong girl approached us. The shacks are quiet, as is the beach and the restuarants. So dont give up on Goa, the old Goa is still there if you can come early or late Alan
