Beautiful room 20 metres from the beach with a view to die for, apartment type room with seperate bedroom large flat screen tv in both rooms, queen sized bed with ultra thick mattress and free air conditioning. Couldn`t believe how clean the place was even outside the resort, everything was clean and well maintained, so on we go.
To keep it short and relevent to Goa I will get to the point, all 2 weeks we spent making comparisons which I know we shouldn`t but after 4 years of Goa just couldn`t help it. We went AI which 99% of the places there are, I didn`t really like the food even the a la carte were not that great although we didn`t starve and always found something to eat. The drinks got boring after a while and as the place was fairly quiet the entertainment got a bit boring and butlins style for our liking. We were lucky that in Playa Dorada you can go out of the hotel and visit a plaza that has a few bars just for a change of scenery but the prices were not much less than they were at home which being AI we did not budget for.
So our summerizing came to conclude that Goa won hands down and we did a bit of a for against thing so here goes :
Dominican Republic :
For
Clean and tidy
Higher standard of hotels (we stayed in a 3 star)
Airport pay on arrival entry tax no stupid visa system
Beaches cleaned every day and watersports properly regulated
Proper security and not some young kid asleep at the gate at night
Against
High taxi prices
Expensive to eat out (2 steak and chips 2 drinks and 1 starter £50)
Prostitutes everywhere(Goa heading this way)
Not being able to get out and about much.
That is just a few things off the top of my head that we compared to Goa, don`t get me wrong we had a good time and enjoyed it but it was certainly a lot less exciting than Goa.I missed getting on my bike every day and being free to go almost anywhere without problems. I missed the food mostly and the option to eat anything and anywhere and when you wanted, same with the bars, at least in Goa you can find something going on that is to your taste if not you can move elswhere, I felt stuck with one bar and entertainment that wasn`t my cuppa tea in DR.
I said to Mrs FTV that if we could move the beaches and hotels to Goa it would be prefect, I certainly didn`t miss the filth and rubbish in Goa or the uncomfy beds and the rigmorole of the visa fiasco or the Monarch flights.
Looks like I will be back in Goa next year, not sure what colour spectacles I will be wearing yet but I did miss the place for all its faults.
