never done it before, just wondring what the cost is and how long it actually takes, i'm not worried about the drive to dover, that will take me about an hour once i get over the bridge on the M25, but i'm think more once i get to the ferry, i'm saying dover becasue i just looked at harwich and it seemed triple the price of the ferry from dover, the ferry said it will only be 70 quid for two adults in one car, that seems really cheap, i've been amsterdam before so i know accomadation will be fine and reasonable, though i htink with these exchange rates, amsterdam is gonna be one of the dearest places in europe (that i've been to anyway), anyway, has anyone done this trip?
i assume someone has, its quite common, any general adive will be good and i'll ask questions as the thread progresses
thank you
oh yeah, i'd be driving a peugeot 206 1.4, so the petrol would be minimal, it doesn't burn alot.
Look at Dover to Dunkerque with Norfolk Lines they are offering some really cheap prices at the moment.
the actual company is at http://www.norfolkline.com and they do have some genuine cheap fares, on the right dates you could get a return for car + 2 people for about £40-£ 50. But the EXTRA driving is about 400 miles so I think the petrol may be more than minimal.
You could also look at Ramsgate-Ostend which would reduce the driving a bit. The link for that is http://www.transeuropaferries.com but they've got the builders in at Ostend at present so there are some service restrictions.
http://www.michelin.fr. OK so it's my local version of the site, but you can get it to work in English and it covers all of Europe. It can prepare you a full map from door to door and with easy to understand instructions.
For pricing your journey and finding a good route, might I suggest you look at
When I worked in Holland I used to do Amsterdam to South London quite regularly. Quickest way would be driving via Calais, take the ferry or the tunnel. It's quite easy to do from Calais, Belgium is signposted, then follow for Bruges, Ghent, Antwerpen then Amsterdam. If I remember well, it takes around six hours in total when using the tunnel, pehaps an hour more by ferry. It's all motorway, door to door I think it was around 500 kilometers.
how dear would it be for two people?
