Thomas cook havn't denied it happened as we reported it to both our rep and the resort office.
In the latest letter they have however started lying by saying we were offered alternative accomodation which we weren't!

Erm I think you'd have moved had you been offered alternative accommodation. Wonder which one they say you were offered.

There's no way you'll get 100% compensation as they'll take the flights off for a start. Maybe best to have a chat with Ros Fernihough or her PA Pam. Ros is a travel law solicitor who often assists our members. They'll offer you free advice and can be reached on

The direct number to Ros's PA Pam is 01922 705134

Or try the switchboard number 01922 633214 and ask for Travel Dept.

Please let us know how you get on :tup

Hi John,
Was it the bar in your hotel or a bar in the resort? What hotel, which resort?

AGAR apts Gumbet Turkey

It was the hotels bar, basically B** the barman seemed to think it was ok to entertain a handful of people till 3am.

Everybody else did hear this going on but because they were drinking it didn't bother them too much

After researching this if you start going back through trip advisor it's been a problem for a while here.

These family run places need to make a profit. The bar is a profitable way of doing it. If Thomas Cook paid them a better rate it makes you consider if they wouldn't have to keep the bar open so late for takings. It's catch 22. I think that all hotel description should be more informative and brochures should be more open and say "bar stays open till past midnight". It does say in a lively area. From that I would read, late nights and loud music before I booked.

It looks like a very small complex (looked at other guest pictures on Tripadivsor - pics of bar too), with only a small number of rooms and lots of busy street around it. I can't think moving you to another room, would have helped much or solved the problem.

This type of complaint is out of their hands. It;s down to the guests. Asking for a full refund would be foolish.

There's plenty of advice elsewhere on the forum as to how to set out a letter of complaint. You will get nowhere asking for 100% of the cost of your holiday, you'll go to the bottom of the pile. I assume there were no problems with the rest of your holiday? If you think you have a genuine complaint about that one aspect and that the fault lies directly with Thomas Cook or the hotel then write a short, to the point letter requesting a refund of £x representing loss of enjoyment for x% of your holiday giving TC 28 days to respond.

The hotel we were in in Gumbet last May had an outside bar which played loud music until 4am. :yikes
Fortunately there were parts of the hotel where this loud music couldnt be heard.
Lots of people complained and I doubt if Thomas Cook will do anything about your complaint as they must get lots of people complaining about the music in Gumbet hotels.
I was shocked when I heard it as the music is switched off at midnight in Icmeler.
It still hasnt put me off returning this May,but I will take earplugs just in case.

The hotel was spoken to by TC and your right music is supposed to be barely audible after 12.

The problem was the rouge bar man. TC's attitude was we know there is a problem we have spken to the Hotel we cant do anymore!

The never offered us alternative accomodation and we couldn't sleep until after 3am every day.

My first holiday to Turkey was to Gumbet about 12 years ago and even then it was a lively resort and we too were kept awake every night by the constant boom boom of loud music.

By all means make your complaint but to ask for 100% + compensation is extreme. At the very best you will receive a certain amount per person per day that you were affected.

Best of luck.

I'd do what Glynis recommends, this type of complaint is far from rare and there will be legal precedents about levels of compensation which Ros will be aware of.
