Good afternoon to all.
I have walked the plank and booked a Christamas cruise on Sea Princess out of Manchester on 13 Dec.
I don't know whether i've got a good deal, as I've avidly followed the regular insights in the HT Cruise deals topic. But I'm constrained by dates so took the plunge, consoling myself that I've paid less that a Thompson cruise(which I enjoy) to the Carib or indeed for Christmas 7 dayer to Las Canarias. and on a superior vessel, as some would argue.
1. After bits of research I felt confident that flying from Manchester would not involve using T.Cook airline. Has anyone done the trip previously? And can they confirm the airline used? I know that this is not a guarantee that they won't employ T.Cook in future. My flight deatils are yet to be confirmed.
2. We have elected to take freedom dining (there is time to change this). This our first Princess cruise and our first Caribbean cruise. We are taking the 'classic' island hopping tour. Any general tips and hints to take benefit from previous experience would be most welcome. I have heard that Princess allow guests to take some wine on board but not spirits? Would you recommend the soda card? Also which excursions are best done/missed. We actually like the 'run of the ship' and the lack of queues etc when guests leave for trips, we enjoy the space and facilities more than a lot of the excursions we have been on.
Your comments and tips will be very much appreciated.
Ps Luci , I apologise in advance if there are already multiple threads on this topic, I did look but couldn't decide on an exact match. Please merge as you see it
When we did it the plane was only for cruise passangers and was a very good flight, free drinks, nice meal and a decent goody bag. legroom was good, grabed a bulkhead that was empty jusr before take off and get even better seat.
Prefered it to many scheduled flights.
can I be so rude and ask you who you booked up with ive been looking at the sea princess with a flight from newcastle saw it on teletext when I phoned cruise specialists they confirmed the flight did not go from newcastle. I trawled all sites when I phone up they say there are no flights available even though they state the airport strange!ive looked at the sea princess and it looks ok we are newbies but I really fancy february just wondering what the weather will be someone said it would be better south carribean at the time of month
Newcastle shows and can be selected on the on-line booking system for Feb cruises
what site is that windjammer thanks
I booked with a1travel, having had quotes from a few other agents. I don't know if there are directs from newcastle. Lots of travel agents had my cruise open
good luck
We have a topic on Princess Cruises HERE which may have some information. There are a couple of reviews of Caribbean ports on Page 1 of our Oceana topic HERE and others in our DIY Excursions topic at the top of the main Cruise forum page.
If you have time to trawl through some of our Cruise Reviews you will find port reviews in many of the ships that sail in the Caribbean including the Ocean Village

We were there February past, and the weather is excellent throughout the Caribbean then.
I have had a quick look and feel reassured that its going to be a great sail, The reviews look good, interesting to see yours from a couple of years ago, also the contributions from the experienced cognescenti.
Thanks again WJ, I hope that my Manchester charter matches your experience.
Here we go for Christmas
We had a lovely time on the Sea Princess, but I noticed that the reviews after we went weren't so good. Will be interesting to see if they have cleaned up their act when you go.
We went on the Sea Princess for last new year, the weather was really good. All the ports we visited we just got a taxi for a tour round it was less expensive than the ships tours. We did want a Manchester flight but were told that we would have to fly from Gatwick, the flights were with Thomas Cook and they were not my favorite, however, they have upgraded the planes for long haul, so they will be fine. Our friends got flights from Manchester and it was a Thomson flight. All in all we had a good holiday, we were a bit disappointed with the service on the Sea Princess but that was just our view. We all have different views and maybe because it was New Year the staff were missing home. The evening entertainment wasnt very good, but the New Year party on deck was really good. The anytime dining was really good, and the soda card was really good value. We did take wine on board which we just used in the cabin, we didnt hide it and no-one said anything. It would have been nice to have tea and coffee facilities in the cabin although you can have complimentry room service so it dosnt pose a problem. You will have a really good time so dont worry.
Thats reassuring. Most of the more recent reviews on cruise citic are v. positive with the odd v.poor.
If the food is good and the sun is shining, then all will be well in my world. Thanks for the soda card and freestyle dining steer.
I'm still a beginner at cruising, and I've booked a J cat with GTY on the hopes of an upgrade. Is this a good move or should I just pick a cabin as there is still time to do this.
The worst that can happen is that you get the cabin you booked and if you are happy with that then I see no problem.
We booked a guaranteed cabin for our upcoming Oceana cruise and have been upgraded several decks to A deck which we would never have paid for. We have always been happy with a basic inside as you spend very little time in your cabin, especially on your first cruise.

Luci, Thats brill, the mystery cabin factor is now adding even more to my enthusiasm.
I was thinking about the times we went with Airtours or Thomson's and we didn't find out our cabin number until check in at the airport. Several times we were upgraded from an inside on the lowest deck to an outside a couple of decks higher and we felt like we'd won the lottery!
If you have a Princess booking reference you may be able to check on their website. With P&O our cabin was changed from an OG to an OC about 6 weeks prior to sailing and then the cabin number appeared 5 weeks before.
