Thinking of booking a cruise on the Dream and was wondering if its worth booking the All Inclusive drinks package?
Does anyone know the current drink prices for Beer and Wine?
I can say that the drinks package cost us £190.00 per person per week. It was NOT worth the money although he did drink a little more than we usually would we kept all the receipts over the 2 weeks £760.00 x 4 persons. We did not drink enough maybe we should have tried harder. On previous Thomson cruises they have cost between £69.00 (Destiny) and £90.00 (Spirit & Celebration) and at this price well worth the money. Just dug out the copy of this years price list we did bring it home with us and I think the prices are pretty reasonable. I do have it on PDF file.
Cocktails - £3.40 average
Cedar strongbow - £2.90 per pint 1.90 with AI drinks package
Draught beer Stella or Bodingtons £1.50 half / 2.90 pint
Vodka 3.00 per shot
Whisky Bells 3.00
Jack Danials 3.00 + 1.00 supplement
Wine 3.15 per glass (200ml)
Soft drinks Cola, Coke, Fanta etc...1.35 Hope this helps...
If I find the menu I will let you know, but I do urge you to consider a different another ship (with Thomson if you prefer) at least until all the plumbing issues are resolved on the Dream.
Here are our reviews for this ship:-
I am an ex plumber so if its mainly blocked toilets that's bread and butter to me Your drinks prices have been helpful I reckon I might just break even so paying in advance saves me worrying about getting a big bill at the end
Yes I agree nickmacuk it's lovely to order what you want without the worry I think that is all part of the experience..I hope you have a lovely holiday if you need to know any specific drinks let me know. Hopefully you wont need your plumbing tools.
Thomson claims ship's not a stinker
Thomson is attempting to restore confidence in its flagship cruise ship by claiming that it has scored record highs in customer service questionnaires in recent weeks.
The Thomson Dream hit the headlines earlier this month when the BBC Watchdog programme investigated complaints from passengers who complained the ship stank of sewage and needed updating.
The programme criticised Thomson for presenting the ship as a new vessel, when in fact it was only new to the Thomson fleet and was in fact 24 years old.
Some passengers complained the smell in cabins was so bad they had to sleep on deck. Thomson has since been offering passengers free upgrades to outside cabins for passengers who book cruises between January and July next year before October 28.
Director of Thomson Cruises David Selby said: "Whilst we accept that there were challenges following Thomson Dream's introduction to the fleet in April, the customer service questionnaire scores and customer feedback over the summer as a whole have underlined the efforts our crew have put in to deliver a fantastic cruise experience to all our customers.
"We are confident that the ship will have a long and successful career with Thomson Cruises, continuing with this winter's Caribbean itineraries."
Thomson claimed 100% of passengers rated the service onboard as 'good or excellent' in recent weeks and on the recent Mediterranean Explorer itinerary 99% of passengers rated the dining, entertainment and cabin accommodation as 'good or excellent'.
The ship will spend six weeks in dry dock in Hanover before sailing to the Caribbean, where it will operate 14-night itineraries.

hi just came back from last cruise on dream before her time in dock for upgrade work had a great time food and entertainment were up to usual thomson standard bigger ship than the destiny cabins much better found no problems with plumbing or aircon in cabin problem with some lifts being out of order but that aside really enjoyed my time onboard if anything to criticise public areas could be degree or two warmer as these were a bit on the cool side had some doubts before i went due to previous reports but these were unfounded and im sure for the summers experience things will be better after what i think is mostly engineering work new equipment being fitted to turn sea water to drinking water probably preferred the destiny for layout although cabins on the dream much bigger and better, drinks cocktails £3.75 pint 3.30 spirits from £3.10 40ml measure for an occasional drinker all inclusive not worth it but if you like few beers its well worth it
anyone travelling in on January 6th from Cuba?
Im travelling on the Dream from Cuba on 6th Jan, and can't wait. Going with an open mind after reading some of the reviews.
Hope you manage to set sail OK!
Departed Southampton 08 Dec 2010
Cabin No. 5122
Disembark Barbados 23 Dec 2010
Although nightmare is a good pun on the ships name, whatever this ship was called the cruise experience on it can only be described as a nightmare. I have actually suffered bad dreams about this cruise in the past few weeks.
I'm also astonished to read reviews of some cruisers giving this cruise 5 stars, there's no way this cruise deserves anything like that kind of rating, I can only assume these are people who haven't cruised before and haven't experienced a decent quality cruise or people who haven't experienced 4 or 5 star treatment in the past.
The ship in the most part can only be described as drab, then you add to this bad smells like sewage and diesel oil it becomes well below a 3 star rating.
Some parts of the ship have been refurbished, yep you guessed it, the retail areas and casino LOL
People have also given the food an excellent rating, WHAT are these people used to eating, the food at best could be described as decent works canteen food, this is supposed to be a cruise with some kind of luxury food somewhere.
Don't get me wrong most of the food served was adequate to survive on daily, well that was when it was served hot and not undercooked.
I can here the cries already, who is this snob. Well I'm no snob, working class to the core and have had my share of living in poverty. Anyone who rated the food on this ship as excellent knows nothing about food, and probably lives on beans on toast and spaghetti hoops. Both available on ship by the way LOL
The food in the seated restaurants was better apparently, but people continuously complained that dinner was taking up to 2 hours a sitting, we gave it a miss.
We had to endure a boiling hot cabin which we could not sleep in, a dozen complaints and 4 days later it was eventually fixed, well to a point, the room was somewhat cooler, but full air con certainly wasn't available. Still we managed to sleep a lot better but not as comfortable as it should have been
Our cabin was on deck 5 definitely the worst deck to end up on. Smells of sewage on a daily basis mixed with the smell of strong detergents, extreme smell of diesel oil which pervaded through the lift shafts and stairwells, positive this caused our sore throats.
The air con on the ship as a hole was pants, hot and cold spots, though mostly hot, many passengers suffered colds and sore throats, us included, this ship was about to cruise the Caribbean, those 100 passengers who didn't make that cruise due to Thomson cancelling their cruise, take your compensation and run and consider your-selves very fortunate not ending up on board this nightmare, the air con will not handle the temperatures in the Caribbean.
List of complaints.
Deck 5 Strong smell of diesel oil which pervaded up through lift shafts on most days.
Deck 5 Strong smell of sewage on several days.
Gray water from cabin taps and shower (Occasional)
Cabin water smelt of strong chemical.
TV in cabin was held together with Black gaffe tape, dangerous when touched, it switched off
Food for the first 4 days was cold and below safe temperatures to eat.
For the first 5 days suffered long queues for food.
In no way was food of 4 star quality, more like works canteen food.
No enforcement of hygienic hand wipe when entering food areas.
Air conditioning throughout the ship was inadequate.
Ships overall condition was poor, far from what's described in brochure.
Free Ice cream machine broke down day 7 never repaired or worked again
Self service coffee diabolical, unhygienic use of milk jugs in icy water.
Tables not cleared quickly for reseating.
No fruit juices free after 11am
Ruined T-shirt due to painters not leaving adequate warning signs of wet varnish on stern deck rail.
Swimming pools in poor condition many tiles missing leaving sharp edges.
Jacuzzis inoperative throughout the cruise.
Long queues at reception due to the amount of complaints overall from other cruisers.
All beers served were short measures way less than 1 pint. Continually had to request it filled correctly.
Our last cruise was on the Independence of the Seas, absolutely superb and a pretty new ship, every thing on the Independence far surpassed anything on the Dream, yet the price we paid was very similar to the dream, and we had a super deluxe cabin with balcony on the Independence. So those who will say you get what you pay for, it's totally irrelevant. Some passengers on this cruise paid £1500 each, we paid £900 each and some got on as cheap as £450 each.
Even at £450 though I would still be asking for compensation.
We've put in a claim with Thomson, something we've never had to do before not being the complaining type, however this really was a poor cruise and the fact that Thomson must have known of the ships defects before we cruised makes things even worse and we've yet to receive any kind of regret or apology following our complaints.
We thought Thomsom was a well respected company and thought they could be trusted, clearly not, we will never ever choose any Thomson product ever again.
Just avoid this boat at all costs it's way past it in todays modern cruise industry.
It is with regret that I read your comments about the Thomson Dream but I can only echo all your comments as I had the unfortunate experience of 2 weeks in May 2010. Apparently this was when the ship was at it's worse. Looking at your comments the same problems seem to be there, although if you look back at my holiday from hell I think they may have been a little WORSE!
As for the compensation we paid £3,649 for two adults. We had a real challenge on our hands we even appeared on a consumer programme (X-Ray Wales) because we felt so strongly this did not effect the offer from Thomson it was a measly 695.00 in vouchers or 580.00 check. We chose the cheque as the thought of doing anything with Thomson after that was not an option.
We are planning to cruise with the Independence of the seas in 2011 and have read nothing but good reviews, also friends have just returned and had a fantastic time. It will never put us off cruising only think very carefully and take more notice of reviews!!!!! Good luck with your next cruise.
You're right not much has changed on the ship, where a so called 7 million on a refit went Is a mystery, it certainly wasn't spent on passenger comfort.
We did an 11 day cruise on the Independance in Nov 2009 You'll be pleased to hear that ship is fantastic, for the first few days every part of the ship you discovered had the WOW factor, Ive never come across such bling, way over the top really but still impressive, there's aparrently over 11 million quids worth of art installations alone. The food is superb much more choice many more restaurants cafe's and coffee shops dispensing free snacks and drinks all day long. This ship makes the Dream look like a bad butlins holiday. Cabins superb, hopefully you have an outside cabin, if not I would highly recommend upgrading to one especially if you smoke or are going with friends with adjoining cabins, you can have the balcony wall slid back and share the balcony with friends. Room service superb. Swimming pools superb as is the surfing thingy and the climbing wal. The entertainment is ok, very American though and not to my taste, many enjoyed it overall though.
My only criticism was the cost of drinks, you'll pay $6.50 for a beer wine etc posher drinks much more expensive. You cannot bring any booze you purchase on board or on excursions to your room, they conviscate it and return it when you disembark, if you're drinkers get a booze package. At the exchange rate at the time a pint of larger equated to £4.50
Anything you have to buy from the shops on board is very expensive, sweets chocolate, pharmacy, gifts etc Wait until you get ashore to purchase provisions.
You are also expected to tip on this cruise, if you tip as they would like you to tip you'll be parting with hundreds of pounds. Because the drinks were so expensive I didn't tip other than 40 quid for the girl who cleaned our room twice daily and left towels folded into the shapes of animals on our bed and sometimes hanging from the ceiling, the monkey being especially funny, and one barman/waiter in the Cigar lounge where we could smoke drink in a gentlemans club atmosphere. This cruise I'm positive will not disappoint so have a great time.
It's a dream, but not a Thomson dream fortunately LOL LOL
I have to admit I only like to tip If I feel it is justified. Previous cruises have been for cabin staff and waiters usually about 10.00 - 15.00 per person and usually around 4 or 5 staff. On the Dream I can honestly say I only left a tip for the cabin boy although I did not have any towel characters as I have before and our toilet and bathroom was flooded (deck 5) most of the time and I left the tip as i felt sorry for him having to mop up all the time it was honestly disgusting.
I can here the cries already, who is this snob. Well I'm no snob, working class to the core and have had my share of living in poverty. Anyone who rated the food on this ship as excellent knows nothing about food, and probably lives on beans on toast and spaghetti hoops
Can I be the first to call you a snob ?
I was on the Dream in August (my sixth cruise) and whilst I appreciate that many people have had nasty experiences on this ship, none of them match my own. We had a fantastic holiday and did not encounter any of the issues described elsewhere on this or any other forum. Yes, there was a bit of a smell of drains along the corridor but certainly nothing to complain about. The food was superb (and I certainly do not lives on beans and hoops) and the service in the restaurants was impeccable. I did not hear one complaint on the cruise and everybody I spoke to seemed to share our view. Five stars from me, no hesitation.
Was I lucky? Perhaps. Or perhaps others have just been unlucky - who knows? Thomson's clearly have some issues with this ship and are probably regretting ever taking it on but I do think I need to add my own positive experiences to provide some balance to this thread. And before some wiseguy asks, I am not a Thomson's employee!

I'm guessing you were lucky enough to be above deck 5 and 6
I'm glad you enjoyed your cruise, all I can say is all the points and complaints I have mentioned have been backed by many other cruisers, and they have added additional complaints as well. I spoke to lots of passangers on the ship and the vast majority were dis satisfied, nothing I've printed is untrue, if you were oblivious to all these things then clearly your idea of a luxury cruise is different to others. At the end of the day these were serious issues and many of them a health hazard and a danger to all passengers weather they are aware of it or not.
I'll also add this is the first time I've felt the need to complain to this extent and to make a claim about anything, and I'm just over 50
You can give a dog smoked salmon and caviar, it will woof it down and wag it's tail, you can give it an old bone it will do the same.

No - we were midship on deck 5. I can't remember the cabin number.

I'm not suggesting what you said is untrue; what I am saying is that my experiences were different to yours and certainly not "oblivious". And I don't expect "luxury" on a Thomson's cruise; I assume this was your first cruise with Thomson's? I got exactly what I expected and paid for: a comfortable but unpretentious ship, good food and service, and tacky (but easily avoidable) entertainment.

Quite frankly I resent the implication in that statement. Perhaps you're used to the bone, paid for steak and chips but expected the caviar?
You had a bad time on the Dream; others didn't. Deal with it.

especially presant on deck 5 let alone suffering seering temperatures in thier cabins due to lack of basic aircon like ourselves and many other cruisers suffered on deck 5. If you were indeed on deck 5 midships, then I'm crearly correct is stating that you were oblivious. As we were on deck 5 midships cabin No 5122 and put up with all this on a daily basis like many others.
There are several cruisers supporting this and giving very similar reviews at cruise.co.uk
"You can give a dog smoked salmon and caviar, it will woof it down and wag it's tail, you can give it an old bone it will do the same."
How you percieve the above is entirily up to you, it's simply an analogy, some people can exist in squalor as percieved by others and be blissfully happy.
As stated I'm glad you enjoyed your cruise. Ours was awful and as you suggest un-necessarily, were dealing with it.
Happy holidays
We simply paid good money for a cruise with decent accommodation and facilities and were certainly aware this wasn't a top notch criuse. However we did not get even the basics with regard to hygien comfort and health and safety. Passengers didn't pay good money expecting sewage smells and strong smells of diesel oil and other chemicals, floods and blocked loo's There are several cruisers supporting this and giving very similar reviews at cruise.co.uk

Happy holidays
I'm happy to accept that you and others have genuine complaints about your cruise. Why are you so reluctant to accept that many others had enjoyable cruises without referring to them as oblivious or happy to live on beans on toast?
You have to bear in mind our air con took 3.5 days to fix requiring 12 complaints resulting in a private meeting with a crew manager, we did not sleep properly for 3 whole nights having to vacate the room at around 2 and 3 am every night as the cabin was to hot. We had to use the next couple of days trying to catch up on lost sleep. So in effect 5 days of holiday completely ruined. Remember sleep deprivation is used in torture and is very uncomfortable and sole destroying. You were on the deck 5 opposite us as you're an odd no, maybe that side of the ship suffered less smells, I work in the haulage industry and smell diesel on a daily basis, the strength of deisel oil smells on our side was almost to the point of choking even for me. We suffered having to traipse through soaking wet carpets in the hallway previously polluted with sewage, many of our other complaints might be considered minor, but in all fairness having paid 2 grand to endure this is a complete travisty and anyone who didn't complain following this kind of service would be considered a complete muppet. If people didn't complain these companies services would get worse and worse.
I really am glad many cruisers enjoyed themselves, but to belittle genuine cruisers with genuine problems and complaints is really annoying and distorts the real truth.
We tried our best to make the best of it, but then I suffered a cold and as mine cleared up Lynn caught it, I of course cant prove that the colds were the cause of the defective air conditioning, but air conditioning on a ship is not a luxury item, ships don't have access to fresh air on lower decks, air con is one main circulators of air and when working properly kills of a lot of airbourne virus and bacterias, defective air con on a ship is a health hazard as well as an inconvenience and if working correctly throughout the ship and in our cabin we may not have suffered colds and sore throats.
Even ardent Thomson long term cruise passengers are leaving bad feed back on another site i mentioned earlier, hopefully Thomson will be in for a right kiciking especially from Watchdog.
