Think you can usually book it on board but you won't get a bargain.

We are on Celebration end July for 2 weeks and, like Colin, booked a year in advance so got AI included.

We have always done Thomsons, and keep on thinking we will try another cruise line (we will one day!) but end up back with them again - for example this year we wanted a different itinerary than the Western med, which we have done many times. For us Thomsons offered the best itinerary round the greek islands and adriatic - the choice didn't seem huge as a lot of cruise lines seem to sail out of Southampton, which we didn't want to do or didn't seem to offer 14 night cruises.

As I say - one day we will try another line, but have always thoroughly enjoyed our Thomsons cruises - especially with AI included!!

When we did the spirit last year, in our cruise booklet that came with the tickets, there was an option to buy it then, but dont know whether you could on board or not as we had already bought it anyway.

Have to agree with Gill, the AI is fantastic as, like other posts have said, it takes care of any worrying about huge bills at the end of the cruise!!

yeah we had it on the spirit this year for free and it was great. our bar bill would have been LOADS.
we've left booking this year's cruise too late now hence they want to charge us £338pp which we may just break even but i don't know really.......

Suzanne, out of interest have you booked with an agent or directly on the website?

haven't booked anything yet but got quotes from both - both are exactly the same.

Martyn,

I always book my holidays over the phone. You can haggle better on the phone than you can with a TA.
They seem to give out the best prices. Play one of against the other. In my case I played Thomson off against Portland, albeit they are the same company. One was giving better discounts than the other. Managed to knock £500 of the original price quoted, and get the free AI. (2 adults, 1 child). Strange I know, considering their telesales people are probably in the same office. Always book my cruises early because my wife works in a school so we can only get July or August. Working on an upgrade for my cabin at the minute. Not having much luck though.

Regards :cheers

I've never had much luck with haggling, probably because we are currently restricted to cruising in the school holiday period. That will change in a couple of years, we hope!
