Has anyone done a daytrip to the temple from Bangkok? I saw a programme about it on Animal Planet last week and thought I'd like to visit, but I can only find one company that does daytrips from Bangkok and it costs 3600 Baht (about £53!) each for 2 people. Any suggestions for cheaper ways to get there, or is it worth paying over £100 for a day out?
We're limited to a daytrip, because we're already booked into the Peninsula in Bangkok as part of a package and we don't want to waste a night's stay there!
Thanks
Elaine
you will be able to book when you are in Bangkok at a cheaper price. Why not contact the Pen and ask them if they can give you a price?
Thanks Fiona - I think I might try that closer to the time.
this tour agency for a much cheaper price.
The temple website is http://www.tigertemple.org/Eng/
If you can only do a day trip then your options are limited to going through a tour agency. It's easy enough to visit the temple on your own but it takes time if you dont have your own transport, and if you arent staying in kanchanburi then it's a bit of a hassle to do in a day from Bkk.

'Thanks for the links and advice Macfarang
We met a couple in Chengdu who told me about this and I love tigers but I didn't know if she was having me on and so I planning on doing some research once I'd gotten over China.
I feel a holiday to Thailand coming on for next year.....
OR
Just book a car and driver for the day and tell him to pick you up form your hotel and take you to the Tiger Temple. Yes, it takes a couple of hours to get there but you're in a comfortable airconditioned car and you can ask thedriver to stop when you want to. Aim to arrive there at 12.30 and you will be in the first group to see the tigers walked down to the sunning area and then you can get your photo taken with them.
Then when you want to go home you can just get your driver and go... we went onto the Bridge on th River Kwai and had a late lunch there bfore heading back to BKK
PM me for a link to my photos if you wish proof!!
Tolsti - if you don't mind me asking how much is the car and driver as that would be our preferred way of getting there?
I realise that sounds a bit steep but between 3 or 4 people it is OK. We had the car from 0900 till about 18.30. It includes petrol but not tollway charges which add about 150 bht (you pay them at the toll, not at the end of the trip.)
I feel sure that you can hire a car and driver more cheaply if you look around, I got this one from a travel agent in a small arcade off Soi 7 Sukhumvit (not the cheapest area as very touristy). You may do better say on Kao Sahn Rd.
Thanks Tolsti
I'm using a local guide that users of another site rave about, and she has had great reviews. PM me and Ill send you her details.
Gooner, would that be Ratt by any chance? I've seen a lot of good comments about her and her website looks very professional, but I didn't think about her for this trip until I saw your message
Having been on the back of a stampeding elephant in in Thailand I have a slightly jaundiced view on their ability to control animals.
Is it just me or does this seem like a mauling just waiting to happen?
I know where you're coming from Sunbear but tigers are my favourite big cat so when we eventually get to Thailand, I'll take the chance. The piccies on the website certainly look tempting...
HI Elaine, not not Ratt ( although Id be grateful if yo could let me have hr email address just to make a comparison) Im using someone called Tong, whose supposed top be an official guide and is supposed to speak excellent english.
I've sent you a pm Gooner.
and ive just replied,
