I keep seeing the advert on TV for Wikinson's Quattro new bikini razor. I wonder what that is like :think

My word of warning:

Don't use hair remover cream if you've fake tanned!

Had more or less convinced myself to get a leg wax this year before going on hols, as shaving them every day is a bit of a pain, but after reading all these posts I'm not sure again :que
I did buy a diy wax strip thingy and used one strip (!!!?) and although it did hurt a bit, I didn't think it too bad. Are these more painful :cry than when its done in a salon??? Also, would I be better leaving it until a week before my hols and then going... once I'm in there, I'm not going to back out and look a wimp!! I'd then get the benefit when I was away, whereas if I go now to try it and find it too painful, I wouldn't go back (my hols are at the end of May!!). Whats the chances of something going wrong the first time i.e. a rash - and if it did would a week be long enough for it to "sort out"???

Oh decisions, decisions, but what a good topic!

I would get a wax now so you can ascertain whether you can stand the pain and don't have an adverse reaction rather than waiting just before your hols. If you go now they'll be just right for having done again prior to your hols.

My experience pain wise is that it always hurts the most where you have the least flesh.....my ankle area hurts like hell but thankfully the rest is fine. Underarms is painful but over quickly (unlike full leg :yikes ) Eyebrows a doddle....just take some sunglasses as they can be very red for a few hours afterwards. Bikini line etc.....hurts me the most by far and I really have to gear myself up for that.

Top tip by my beautician is take some painkillers an hour before waxing, this helps dull the pain....it does help honest :tup Also DON'T have any waxing done when it's that time of the month, just before, during or just after as your skin is much more sensitive then.

Waxing is so much more convenient than other hair removal methods. If timed right, about a week before you go, any redness will be long gone and you can spend your holiday not having to defuzz every other day. It can be painful the first couple of times and as someone has already said it is more painful where there isn't alot of flesh but having done it regularly I don't find it painful any more. Having waxed for years and also using an epilady when I can't get to the Salon I have found that the hair has become finer and finer and I have areas where no hair grows at all now which is a bonus :D Have also used the wax strips in the past but found them quite messy, hair removal creams where yuck and found the re-growth started within a couple of days just like shaving and I also had a nasty reaction like a chemical burn which hurt like hell. Waxing everytime for me.

Right guys, have decided on the waxing option, found a salon today doing a reet good deal, half leg, bikini line and armpits ( ow, ow, ow !!!) for £25, so am gonna go for it !!
Ta all for the suggestions, but can anyone tell me how long it lasts ? have booked it for 3 days before jamaica and away for 2 weeks, will have to take the old razor, I realise, but if I can get away with not using it for ages, crackin' !
cheers,

Juby -you won't need your razor!!
Waxing lasts 4-6 weeks. DIY strips are more painful than the salon IMO.

Denny, 4 - 6 weeks ?? bloomin great !! Aw mate, if thats the case then I will be proper chuffed ! mind you, I am a tad monkeyfied when it comes to hair, so it'll be a reet challenge for the poor lass who is assigned to my case, but if I walk out baldy beauty rather than plucked chicken, she can have a fab tip !! :rofl

Thats a good price you've found for the waxing package - don't think you will need to use your razor on holiday. I reckon about 4 weeks before regrowth starts to become noticeable. Good luck!

Does anyone epilate??

I've had this saved in my favourites for a couple of weeks

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Braun-Silk-%C3%A9pil-Xelle-5585-Epilator/dp/B000N8QW9C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=drugstore&qid=1238250200&sr=8-1

Out of stock at the mo, but it was around £30, the reviews seem good too.

Waxing is a waste of time for me, the hair grows back too quick.

Hi,

Yes I do, I have this one Braun Silk-épil Xpressive 7681 it does seem a bit painful at first especially if its the first shave after covered legs over the winter, but it is great. I only use it on my legs but found it works well. After a few minutes it just feels like pins & nedles - certainly not excruciating pain for sure.

Hmm, I'm getting more and more tempted to try one. The Braun ones all seem to have pretty good reviews.

Do you have to leave the hair to grow a bit before you can epilate? That's another thing I don't like about waxing.

Hi,

I do it when I can see a couple of hairs, I always do the whole leg each time, you can tell if there is hair as you can feel it being plucked - so to speak. I always tend to miss a couple, so going over it again won't matter. It doesn't have to be long like waxing.

I was dubious, but now I wouldn't be without it. Far better than shaving & lasts much longer.

I had IPL about 5/6 years ago. Expensive but worth every penny :yikes .

I've had an epilator for years and use it when I can't get to a salon for a wax or haven't got the cash to go. I like it and don't really notice the pain anymore, you can use it on really short hair which is a bonus - none of this having to wait until you are resembling an ape nonsense.

i too have epilator its a wee bit ouchy but its no where near as bad as i thought it would be. i love it xxphxx :tup

Have any of you used it on your bikini line though? That's what I would get one for
