Don't forget that if you get a Carte Bleu (approx 25 dinar for a week) it will allow you to travel free on most trains. You can pick one up from any station on presentation of a passport sized photo.
The SNCFT timetable may be useful for anyone wanting to explore independently as I've heard of people having great difficulty in tracking down train times from their hotel. Don't worry, it is in English as well as French and German.

Can anyone tell me if there is a train station in PEK and if not where is the nearest train station?
Nearest station is Sousse - no more than about 5 dinar in a taxi (approx £2). The main bus station is also in Sousse, as is the louage (shared taxi) station.
I bought a 7 day Carte Bleue in March 2008 - 42 Dinars for a first class.
