Hubby and I are hoping to have a last couples holiday before our baby is born in December. We have an annual insurance policy and obviously if we do manage to book somewhere, I will have to let them know of my pregnancy. Does anybody know if they will just put this on the insurance documents, or will I actually have to pay an extra supplement :que

I not sure if there is a 'legal' requirement to let them know you are pregnant, and there is usually a clause of not being insured if you are 28 weeks onwards.
But I personally would let them know - that way they can't come back and say they are not insuring you.!
Make the most of this very special holiday. You will not get a 'relaxing' holiday again for at least 18 years :rofl

I agree with jimd-f, a seperate policy each may not be a good idea. Don't take their word for it over the phone, check the rules of each very clearly to see how they class the "party" (even if there are only 2 in it!). Many cover illness of a close member of your party (or even someone left at home) but usually with the traditional pre-exisiting condition exclusion. It is possible that if one of you were hit by a moped before you went or whilst away then there would be cross policy cover for the other cancelling/ staying longer. But I'd be wary about it applying if his exisiting illness flared up again.

definately let them know and try to get them to confirm it in writing. As before, it's the connected problems you need to be covered for. As in my example of being hit by a moped, if it was hubby they might just bandage him up and let you carry on the holiday but if it was you they may say they'd like to keep you in hospital for 24 hours - that extra treatment is down to the "pre exisiting condition" not the moped!

Yes, I agree. I don't think I would feel happy having two separate policies in force for our insurance in case anything happened. I have been wondering about what would happen if one of us has to stay longer to look after the other. :que Makes things a lot more straightforward for us to have just one. Many thanks for help. Jane

Just got my renewal from Esure - had them for the last couple of years. I have Type 2 Diabetes and they feature in members recommendations. The renewal this year is/was £235. Spoke with them and after the usual questions. Nothing changed from last year they raised the premium to £269. with £35 excess. Rang Direct Line and they quote £152 for an annual European policy for the two of us. One question asked by Direct Line was did I wish to authorise anyone to act on my behalf in an emergency. Very sensible as if something did go wrong it is your family who you turn to.
I do accept that as we get older there is a greater risk but as we tend not to be so daft we are less likely to have an accident. If we were to be talking about a TO increasing the price because of our age the phrase " Rip Off" would feature in the conversation.

Just an update. I got hold of my insurance company, and they have sent me an email confirming that as long as I am back in this country before I am 36 weeks and 6 days pregnant ,then they will automatically cover me :tup

Marlou, check with the airline you would be flying with before booking anything as some won't let you fly over a certain amount of weeks. With Thomas Cook you can fly up to 28 weeks without a medical certificate and 29-34 weeks with one.

Sarahste, have you tried allclear? That's who I normally go with for pre-existing medical conditions. Their excess is quite high though which has stopped me using them this year.

We have insurance for a couple. If I travel myself with friends am I ok with our insurance

Check your policy or call the company to check as they are all different.

I am covered for 45 days away on my own as the main policyholder, but hubby is only covered for 31 days on his own.

There is a company which covers pre-existing medical conditions provided they haven't changed in the past 12 months http://www.eta.co.uk
