In addition to the above, I would suggest you get a family policy for yourselves, that your Mum gets her own policy and your sister gets a couples policy providing that they have been living together for at least 6 months.
The reasons being that each has to declare their own pre-existing medical conditions and you may not know everything about the others if you took it out.
However it may be a good idea to take all the policies out with the same company.
As has been said, you need to read the policy wording to ensure that it covers everything you need it to. There is no one size fits all and you need a policy for your own circumstances.
thank you for your help. im trying to find a company to use
Plenty of recommendations on Page 1 of this topic.
thanks xx
I got a few quotes and the best was from Insure and Go at £96, but before buying I decided to call them to double check the policy was suitable, and the woman I spoke to confirmed that it was, but I might want to try comparethemarket.com to get a discount (which was odd - a company trying to get me to pay Less!)
So, I did a comparison and the same policy from insure and go (same excess, levels of cover, medical conditions covered etc) came in at £27.
So, it just goes to show that you should shop around and give the comparison sites a check too.
does m and s travel insurance europe cover cape verde please
Marks and Spencer have a drop down box so you select the country you want. It depends on the company which policy they would cover it under.
Just wondering how much generally does it put insurance payments up by if your are taking blood pressure tablets and statins for cholesterol ? Can they refuse to insure you even?
Taking one medication for high bp added nothing to our policy when declared - not sure whether multiple medication/statins woiuld be insurable on normal travel policies - may have to look for specialist cover.
We had to pay extra premiums when we declared we were taking more than one tablet for these conditions, however it wasn't very much, and we didn't have to change our insurance company
thanks for your replies. Will check policies and contact them if need be.
It is best to declare ANY pre-existing condition - otherwise the insurers have "wriggle room" if you make almost any claim!!!

Definitely!
I'm on Statins and first declared it last year. We're with Nationwide and qualify for free travel insurance. For the year it cost me £30 to cover cholesterol. Recently it was found that hubby has high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes so when our policy was due last month I declared his condition also, this time it cost £100 for the year, which I don't think is too bad.
When i rang to inform them the woman I spoke to proceeded to go through all the questions again even though I told her I had declared everything when I took out the policy last August.
She still insisted on asking questions and added £40 to my policy!
I thought this was because of the A&E visit but when I phoned later I discovered it was for saying yes to the question, had i ever had treatment for my back?
I had 30 years ago!so it is best to declare every single thing, thats if you can remember.
This is with Staysure who I will stay clear of when my policy need renewing.
I will go back to Insure and Go.
High blood pressure or any other condition if not disclosed simply gives the insurers a reason not to pay out even if the condition has no bearing on the claim.

Its a preventative measure and I only take 10mgs twice a week but still get charged the same excess as my husband who takes 20mgs every night!
It really is a minefield but I have met many folk who havent even got any insurance
Just went online and did a search using Money Supermarket and putting my conditions in and got a qoute of £37 for 2 weeks in Thailand. Breakdown stated an extra charge of £2.50 : Looks like I was flapping for nothing cheers

Is this the free insurance you get with Flexaccount? I've just relied on that when going to Cyprus last couple of years although not had to resort to it yet. So they will charge extra £30-100 for declared conditions?

All insurers charge extra to cover pre exisiting conditions, although some conditions can be covered at no extra charge. Whether they charge or not, they need to be told. Not declaring any pre exisiting conditions is a reciple for disaster when it comes to trying to claim.
