Hi,
My daughter 16 is going to Hong Kong on boxing day for 2 weeks with her friend and her family. Don`t really know what to do about money? What would be the best and easiest thing to take?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Many thanks.
Theresa
We withdrew some cash from an ATM upon arrival and paid by debit card for meals etc. whenever possible so we weren't carrying loads of cash around. We found it quite common to even settle bar bills by card in HK.
Did think of that, We opened an account with Nationwide this year and thought we would open 1 for daughter. Are their plenty off ATM`s around for her to get money when she needs it?.
Didnt want her to be carrying lots of cash around. First time she`s been away for more than a few days without us on holiday.

No wonder- the prices they charge
There are plenty ATMs around. We withdrew money at the airport and found we didn't need to bother again as we used cards all the time. For transport, an Octopus card is very handy. You put in a sum of money and can top up at any time and also get a refund for what is not used( at the airport)
Octopus card
useful websites including Octopus and MTR info

We've had one for years and always found it a really great way to get local currency as the exchange rates are always good.

How true Fiona!! Although I have to say Mes Amis was very reasonable.
