This takes you to a Cypriot village to see delight being made, another one to see baskets being woven, you get to look into a typical village home that is still being lived in and meet the family, see some weaving, have a meze lunch in a local taverna, we also visited an very old church and I think wine tasting was also included. It was really good and you also learnt a bit about local customs.

Sounds lovely - who did you book this with?

Its advertised in the local travel agents in Paphos, I cant remember now who we booked with, it was one of those along the sea front, going toward Viva Cyprus past the estate agents and nr the green with a tourist info place!

Kykkos monastery is also worth a visit if you haven't been there already.

Some amazing views but remember to keep your shoulders covered up if you are going in.

No trip to Lara Bay would be complete without having lunch at Viklari (the Last Castle) you may have already done this though.

Podromos is nice.

How about a boat trip on Wave Dancer or soemthing like that?

Hope this helps

Hi Presto2, it's Tinka14 again! :D Did you mean the Adonis Baths by any chance? We went there in March, we were doing Cyprus for the 3rd time (my 4th time to Cyprus) The chap who runs it is a real character and will tell you his life story and the story of the place and how the Russians keep offering him millions to buy the place...!You DO need a 4 x 4 to get there, the road is NOT suitable for any car although some were driving it....it's a very tranquil place when no coach parties are there, how a coach gets up/down the road beats me..anyway, he's got a 3 legged dog and various cats, including a beautiful grey one who looks Egyptian.
I would get up the Akamas peninsula as per previous post and drive up to Lara beach and stop off at St George's and view the pretty harbour. Also have a walk up the Avakas gorge, it's not too demanding a walk if you do it early or later in the day, that's where the Last Castle is anyway so you could combine the 2.

When we stayed in Limassol, we had a drive round Akrotiri Bay, and we stopped off at I think, St Nicolas of the Cats monastery, it's chocka full of cats and we didn't see any people, it was quite weird being surrounded by about 40 cats!

Dont forget Throni - just a bit further up. It's the resting place of Archbishop Makarios and there is a tiny little chapel at the top........very peaceful. The views are to die for.

I am sure I have lived here in a previous life. I always get very emotional when I visit Cyprus.

Hi Presto 2,
Amber and Karl here with a few suggestions for things to do. When/if you go to Lara Bay have a stroll over to the turtle tent, the man there is really nice and very informative about what goes on re. the turtles.
If you go over to Polis again and go to the Baths of Aphrodite just below the tourist pavillion is a little shingle beach that is lovely, have a go at snorkelling. Also from Polis go north east up to Kato Pyrgos, the coast line is lovely and not so many tourists.
While you have the jeep try the camel trail that takes in three Venetian bridges, it's in the Troodos and the scenery is beautiful, set out early and you can have lunch at Pano Platres.
Hope this gives you a few new ideas, have a great time, we go in five weeks time!!!!

Thanks everybody for all of the ideas! We have done the Throni (is that right) - the one with the great views and the handkerchiefs (!) and Kykkos. Must admit, didn't know about the various stops at Lara beach / Bay etc etc so we will definitely be getting the maps out to plan our routes.

Hi Tinka ! You again eh! You must follow us round the site! How many cats? Hubby is worried --- I always get too attached to the cats and kittens in Cyprus so he's worried that I may try to smuggle one or two in my suitcase! Now 40 may be too many!!!!!! (We haven't 'told' ours that he's in kennels for 2 weeks yet ..... oooohhhh dearrrr!)

We got on August 5th --- we booked LAST June ---- it's been a long wait, but we 're off soon!! Yipeeeeeeeeeee

That's because this forum recognises C0N as possibly being defamatory, as in C0Nfidence trick.

Re lunching at Lara Beach, there's also the Lara Restaurant, further up than the Viklari and right on the beach.
If you've got a 4X4 drive over from Lara to Neo Chorio. There are some great views back down Lara Bay.

Drive up Troodos, then continue over to Kakopetria or Pedhoulas.

Cedar Valley.

Kykkos Monastery, Tomb of Makarios.

Go and have the barbeque lunch at Viklari, overlooking Lara Bay. The view is just sensational and the food is simple but extremely good as well as inexpensive (30 quid for 4, including booze!).
You'll need a car - some say a 4 by 4 although the track is good enough for a saloon car. You can walk off a few pounds after lunch by driving the short distance to the Avakas gorge
Go and see Kourion (or Curium if you wish) but don't miss the Temple of Aphrodite on the way or the Stadium.
If you get the chance get over to Y & P's fish taverna at Latsi - arguably the best fish taverna on the island (if you go on a sunday for lunch you'll find it packed with locals from as far afield as Nicosia, which speaks volumes for the food).
Go and visit some of the local wineries around Pafos, so when you are home later on, drinking this years vintage, you can say you knew the grapes personally!! (I like this one).
Buy some spices in Pafos market but have a freshly squeezed orange juice while you're there.

Other than that, lounge around the pool and chill out (grin) And enjoy!!

Which area of Cyprus will you be in?

sorry that would of been helpful of me to mention wouldnt it! hee hee! Limassol x

I don't know the Limassol area very well but I have been to the Kourion just outside Limassol on the way to Paphos and that is worth a visit. Lovely views too.

Also Kolossi castle, the Troodos mountains are easily accessible from Limassol too, Kykkos monastery.

The Fasouri waterpark at Limassol is said to be fantastic.

I don't know of any more places in that area but I'm sure someone else will be able to tell you a few.

The Donkey Sanctuary at Vouni and the Camel Park at Mazotos (on way to Larnaca).

Omodhos tourist village on the way to Troodos (it's a bit cooler up there too).

Take a cruise on a catamaran for the day or an evening from Limassol Old Port (pre-book with your resort rep or one of the agents as well as direct with the cruise companies).

You can take a mini-cruise to Egypt from Limassol port for 2 nights too (depends on how long you will be in Cyprus for though).

The Time Elevator at the Carob Mill near Limassol castle is a good experience but it's not cheap. Last time it was Cy£7pp (about 2yrs ago).

And yes - Fassouri Watermania is the newest and biggest waterpark. Just a short bus ride from the tourist area.

The time elevator was closed down last August when we were there.
Looked permanent to me, but could be wrong
