Hi,
Is it easy to get to the Tsavo game reserves from the hotels on Diani beach?
Graeme
Yes it is. Last time I went, we drove into Tsavo and although I can't remember exactly how long the drive took, I only went for 1 night/2 days on this one so can't have taken too long. However, this time, we are flying into Tsavo from Diani as this will be our "weddingmoon" so want to save as much time as possible. You can fly pretty much anywhere, including Tsavo and Masai Mara from the Ukunda airstrip which is in the Diani Beach area and saves trailing back to Mombasa Airport. The closest Park to the Diani Beach area though is probably Shimba Hills - this is only about a 40 min drive from my hotel in Diani Beach area. Best here for elephant and bird viewing and the scenery is beautiful but Tsavo better if want to see the cats etc and Masai evern better still!
Thanks fro that Shelly.
They really were pretty bad last time I was there but that was in North Mombasa. Very few people spent any real time on the beach. I understand it is much better in the Diani Beach area, particularly where my hotel is which is at the Southern tip of Diani (Galu Beach) with no other nearby hotels so I guess it's not as much worth there while down there but also I understand that the few that are there are licensed and do leave you alone when requested. Which hotel are you staying at? You'll usually find too that the hotels, where there is a problem, employ security guards who will ensure that nobody is too persistent or too much of a nuisance to you.
Shelly,
Don't really know this one - it is a little further North up the coast from my hotel - nearer to Diani Beach centre and nearer to the Ukunda airstrip. Seem to be several other hotels either side. If you look at the reviews on the African Mecca site, they all seem to be pretty good.
PS, also look at reviews on TripAdvisor -
