Things seem to be going along quite nicely Digby. I saw the nurse yesterday and she didn't find any more stitches lurking underneath the scabs. She re-dressed it and I have to have it done again on Friday, then a couple of times next week. Luckilly the weather is fairly decent as I can only wear sandals at present but at least I can get around better. I had a phone call from the AXA, the insurance company, this evening and they were very apologetic about all the stress they caused. I said I would write a full report in the next few days when I could get out and photo-copy everything relevant so I keep your fingers crossed for me!
Will do, Aslemma. Sounds like you are making progress both with your injury and the insurance. We are insured with Axa too, so will be interested to hear if you get on ok with them.
aslemma on a lighter note, can you verify that your wound was not caused by a cutlass when told to walk the plank !!!
Definitely not Johnny - if I'd walked the plank I wouldn't have lived to tell the tale as I can't swim.
as I can't swim
Neither can his camera
Sorry aslemma I couldn't resist
Good to see you are getting your sense of humour back (I hope) how are you doing now? any joy with AXA yet?
I've lost many things Graham, but so far I've managed to hang on to my sense of humour!! The saga with AXA continues. I had a phone call from them to apologise for the problems I'd had but the very next evening I got a phone call from Clinique Essalem in Sousse saying I had to pay them the £50 excess on my insurance. On phoning my daughter, I learned she had already been contacted by the clinic regarding this, and the only way they would have got her phone niumber was via AXA, who she had contacted many times whilst trying to sort things out.
Very quiet on Tunisia board where are you all?
I too was wondering where everyone was Graham!! The doc has put me on different antibiotics as there is still infection which the previous tablets didn't touch. I still can't get shoes or boots on and sandals aren't a good look with a winter coat and umbrella unfortunately. I can get around and most of the time it isn't too painful but it seems it is going to be quite a while before I'm back to normal (whatever that is!) I still intend to go back to Sousse next spring, though my daughter is threatenng to hide my passport so I can't leave the UK.
my daughter is threatenng to hide my passport so I can't leave the UK
Easiest way around this is for you to hide it first, but you might be better telling your daughter where you put it just in case you forget
Nice pic on fb aslemma That was one heavy duty bandage/cast you had! Anyways glad you are on the mend now!
Graham - You've hit the nail on the head: whenever I put something in a 'safe place' I frequently find it so safe I can no longer find it!!
Well, at last it's holiday time Leaving home at 8a.m. tomorrow. Domestic flight to Glasgow first. Booked favourite seats on both legs of the journey. It looks like a decent day forecast so I think I'll do without the valiums. I may change my mind about that nearer the time depends on the nerves! Hoping cases are not overweight as already paid for extra 5 kgs. Just doing last minute things. I have no idea why I waste time before holidays, changing the bed and washing kitchen floor. I suppose it must be incase anything happens to us on holiday!! Will probably be back on h.t. before I go to bed. I really don't know how I will cope with the withdrawal symptoms since I am on here forever. Will be back on later to do my review of the hotel since there has been none since last March.
You will be pleased to know that the weather near Glasgow airport is very calm and mild with just the odd light shower at the moment so no problems this end.
Glad to hear you will be doing a review
Have a good time in Tunisia digby
Have a good flight and a lovely holiday Digby. We look forward to hearing from you when you get back.
I stay at the Royal Salem or the Tej Marhaba. I find the staff and all Tunisians genuinely friendly and that keeps me going "home".
I love walking. Walking into Sousse and into the Port. Went to the Royal Kenz, a couple of evenings, some years back, but it looked like an older crowd there and not a Hotel where you could stroll through the lobby in Swim shorts with a T shirt on.
Looked at the El Hana Hannibal Palace this year and it looks good. Seems it might be difficult to find half-board now. Don't wish to do all-inclusive unless I have no option.
Love the hub-bub of Sousse and bartering. Always but my T shirts in the Port. I also have a leather jacket and several leather bags and they are wonderful.
The place fills me with much contentment and find it's as comfortable as an old friend and I also meet up with others now.
Cheers
Anthony

This allows the Casino Caraibe Sousse/Changing Ladies topic to remain focused on that subject alone and it makes it easier for all users to get and ask for information on that specific subject without having to read through lots of off topic info first.

All age groups stay at the Kenz..but don't really mix very much. The Hotel doesn't take anyone under the age of sixteen.
When one enters the restaurant the first day of the holiday; one is led to a table which seats four. I think to reduce sterotyping re: ageism.. it would be a good idea for the head waiter, who allocates seating, to mix age groups.
Because people who have chosen Tunisia as their destination; who come back time and time again; I think.. gives all who go to Tunisia; something in common to talk about; regardless of their age. And of course forums are ageless.
When I speak to young people..I find them friendly and generous with their time. I suppose it's a question of: who makes the move! If you have an interest in people.. as I do...the barriers which exist.. are there to overcome.
The staff in the hotel are...very polite, who have good manners, who use restraint; which is ..something that is sadely lacking in the U.K.
I have only been to the Medina once...and that was during Ramadan.. which meant that most of the shops were closed.
Sousse I have yet too discover...except for the Casino Caraibe.
I have just booked a weeks holiday in May 2010. early I know, but necessary..if you want to go from Bristol Airport.
The price of the holiday I find is cheaper... if you book early. I am of pensionable age...which in no way holds me back from globetrotting..and it helps that I am reasonably fit. .

Sousse, isfun. If you can climb the Ribat steps you get a fine view of the City. Bustling Medina but so different to home.
We love the Port and stroll round it 2 or 3 times every holiday, especially in the evening.
El Jem is a must as is Karouan.
We won't be going back until September, possibly the 5th to the 19th.
I'm sure we'll talk again before May but I wsh you well for that trip and I'msure you will thoroughly enjoy it.
Cheers
Anthony
Anthony - Just a reminder that Ramadan won't end until about 11th September next year, though being out there then will mean you can participate in the celebrations for Eid.
